PALM BEACH, Fla. — Tennis star Anna Kournikova's mother has been arrested in Florida and charged with child neglect.

A Palm Beach2_bing.gif police report says 46-year-old Alla Kournikova left her 5-year-old son home alone while she ran errands Tuesday.

Someone passing by the home found the boy and called police.

The boy told police he jumped out a second-story window, but was not seriously injured.

Police said Alla Kournikova locked the home with a deadbolt and officers had to get inside through a second-story window.

She was released from the Palm Beach County Jail after posting a $3,000 bond.

Online records and the police report did not list an attorney. A phone number listed for an Alla Kournikova in Palm Beach has been disconnected.

That wasn't very smart of her.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

I guess we just need to be "more accepting" of other cultures and traditions.

In RUssia / Ukraine, this is very common, to leave small children secured at home while a parent runs (literally) to the market for bread and milk.

LOgically speaking, it would seem "arrest" is a bit heavy handed when a lessor course of action would be more fitting.

It's a question of placing the child in a hazardous situation. But again, the bail was only $3,000, they hardly through the book at her.

it might be very common in russia but it's against the law in the US so maybe she needs to respect the laws/customs of the country she's living in

I used to walk about a mile to the grocery store and back when I was 5. I'd also go out and play with my friends without my parents constantly watching over me. You sure can't do that anymore.
