Can I just say i am so happy now I have found the English Store here in Salt Lake City. They sell everything I miss about home including Warburtons Bread, Crumpets, HP Sauce, Dandelion and Burdoch (The list could go on forever). One of the main things both me and my wife missed was a good curry, I have since found a supplier on Amazon for the base powder and i make my own Naan Bread (Although Walmart has now starting selling it but they don't sell curries lol).

I have found that the local Smiths sells Submarine Rolls which are quite good for making a good sandwich but apart from that I agree, bread here isn't the greatist, which is a shame because walmart also sell Tetley Tea which always goes down great with a good sandwich (Especially since walmart have started selling real "English" cheddar instead of the ####### they call cheddar here).

@Utah_Bound : The US could do with a few Tesco's.

they have Fresh & Easy which is a subsidiary of Tesco but right now they are only in California, Arizona, and Nevada.

Plus you think it's ridiculous now, but your husband will probably soon find the smallest things irritating, it's a part of the next stage of living in a new country.

Nahh.....my husband and I own a house together and have been together on and off (mainly on) in Florida for the past 5 years.... :) They have a pretty decent British food section in Publix near Disney but it's crazy expensive...a tin of mushy peas.....almost $3.00, it's like 29p in Britian!!! He's OK with the Bread....REALLY!!! :P I"m the one who has the food problem.....The US does NOT sell apple flavored Lucusaide (sp?) I am absolutely addicted to that drink.....

PEACE!!

Goodness! I thought I was the only crazy thinking their bread is sweet!

I go to Publix Bakery for the selection of fresh breads, and they come pretty close to Croatian ones. Have you tried World Market stores? That's where I get my Milka :)

Naturalized! Yeah!

My friends:

I totally AGREE. Sometimes I find myself swearing in my mother tongue at the supermarket because I'm so desperate... why put fat and corn syrup in your bread if flour, water and yeast worked so well for the humanking for milenia? And it's SO expensive!!

I love my American husband as much as I hate American bread.

A lot of the foods are different here, not just the bread. There are good things and bad sides to the arguement. I'm missing English chocolate, but on the flipside I can't get enough root beer!

Marilyn, that's a cute cat you've got there.

Why America, why? Your bread tastes like cake......................

I fully agree the state of bread and pastries could use improvements in this country.

And what´s up with almost only offering a single type of cake, that tasteless fluffy white sugarcake with butterfrosting....
