Hey everyone:

So, I've read that when it comes to AP, there's basically nothing you can do. However, every 60 days, the embassy can send the DOS a reminder to expedite the process. But, when I write the embassy to inquire about my case, the auto-response says they will NOT respond to inquiries regarding AP, and to simply wait.

My question is this: does the embassy send the expedition requests automatically? If not, how in the world do I remind them, if they won't respond to inquiries regarding AP?

Thanks.

I dont know if this will help but I will tell you of our instance. We were in AP due to a minor technicality. When my fiancee went to submit information as requested the consulate would tell her nothing and mostly were rude. However when I personally went on the days alloted for the USC, I was treated very well and was given the information I requested and an explanation of what had happened. In our case it was only that her fingerprints were not readable when transmitted to the US and she had to resubmit them. They would not tell her this but told me and explained everything to me. The only thing they could not tell was how long it would take to fix. In the end it was two weeks then we received the visa. There is advantage if it is possible for the USC to make the request in person. I feel there is some injustice to the way people are treated at the consulates also. I feel I received preferential treatment over other USC who were not caucasion. I do not believe this is correct or fair but based on what I witnessed and the others I talked to I believe it to be very true.

I guess in a nut shell what I am saying is that there can be advantages to the USC personally visiting the consulate if possible but there is still no gaurantee. It is very frustrating and I have much feeling for those who have been in extended AP. I wish you the very best and hope you may receive some answers soon. Hope I am not making things more confusing

Thanks for the reply, Bernie. My wife is from Iran, so I'm pretty sure the AP is mandatory--people from the Middle East are more heavily screened. I was present at the interview and also had my Senator write us a letter of introduction, and neither made any difference wrt AP. (Although I believe our interview went more smoothly as a result.)

I'm just trying to figure out if there are ANY pressures to apply during the process. Thanks!

I understand - after we resubmitted the fingerprints we received the same - 221g, nothing more is required, you need to do nothing, just wait and we will inform you when a decision is made! That is when I went to the consulate ready to hunt bear! But I received a full explanation of what was going on and what had happened, only thing they would not tell was how long, but at least I know we were approved and just waiting on the visa. Waiting sucks but sometimes good news can be obtained to ease the pain.
