Dot,

On line #10 on the form, check "Birth in the US". The certificate number, date, and place is for the Naturalization Certificate. You will need to send a certified copy of your birth certificate, not just a photocopy.

RFE is Request For Evidence and will only delay your petition.

You have been given excellent advice from the other members, so stay calm and Good Luck.

If born in USA, you just check that box and the rest of the section is N/A.

With the petition, you mail photocopy of a certified copy of the US birth certificate.

Hello everyone,

I am also a newbie and have been browsing these forums and have just started up an I-129F petition. I was curious what was meant by a 'certified' copy of a birth certificate. I have noticed it in both of the above posts.

Does the birth certificate photocopy need certification by some professional? Or is a photocopy of a certified birth certificate enough?

Thanks in advance for your help

photocopies don't need to be notarized/ certified. A certified copy of a birth certificate relates to the fact that the original registration of a birth is made in a book (think church registers for a comparison) and then they issue a certified copy of the entry as your certificate. That just means that an authorised authority has produced the copy of the entry onto a standard format.

Timeline Summary:

K-1/K-2 NOA1 - POE: 9 February - 9 July 2010

Married: 17 July 2010

AOS mailed - Interview : 22 November 2010 - 10 March 2011

ROC mailed - approved: 14 February - 18 June 2013

Citizenship mailed - ceremony: 9 February - 7 June 2017
