Really? Because I just think it sounds a lot like queen... on steroids.

I happen to love Queen, though.

Yea me too... but they either sound too much like queen or too much like radiohead...

Just sayin. :P

I like muse don't get me wrong... they just always sound a lot like those two bands. Which is funny because I don't really like radiohead... but I like muse - go figure. Well I would say muse is more hard than radiohead... mmkay I'm rambling.

Radiohead makes me want to gag myself with a spoon.

But I totally get what you're sayin' about the mixture of the two. Somehow it works.

You and I are kindred sonic spirits, Sprail. Actually, Ali too...

But yeah, I'm totally in the same boat as you on Muse. I really like them -- Black Holes And Revelations would be in my top ten albums, I bet -- but their latest album was definitely TOO much like their influences. Don't get me wrong -- I don't mind it -- but "United States of Eurasia" could have been on A Day At The Races in place of "Millionaire Waltz". Queen was my favorite band from the time I was thirteen until I was fifteen. I had ALL of their albums, and was utterly gaga over Queen II. I STILL love that album. But hearing Muse ape those harmonies bugs me sometimes, since I know that they're a better band than that. I think The Resistance was a step backwards after having established their own sound on Black Holes And Revelations. You can hear shades of Radiohead, like Nev mentioned, and Rush in their music as well.

I still believe their true potential hasn't been realized yet though. On their live HAARP album, there's this great jam at the end of "New Born" that goes in this very dark, innovative direction...and when I heard that for the first time I laughed giddily, hoping that they'd capitalize on that sound for their next album. Instead we get the (in my opinion) uneven effort that is The Resistance.

As for Shiny Toy Guns...I first heard them last year with their cover of "Major Tom (Coming Home)" on a car commercial. I utterly loved that version, so I recently bought Season Of Poison. I'm not overly wild about the album, but there are a few great tracks like "Ricochet" and "Ghost Town". That's another band that I think hasn't reached its potential.

I cut my teeth as a teenager on late '60's, early '70's rock -- mainly progressive rock. Utterly loved it. Still love a lot of it. I'd say at least 300 of my CDs are from that era. It would take me more than a thread to even cover how much appreciation I have for music. God, it makes me miss working with it SO much. :(

Queen was amazing in concert! I saw them when I was in grade school (grade 4 or 5 maybe?). So sad that Freddy is gone. I would love to hear what music he would be making now if he were still alive.

I have a Creative Zen. I only listen to audiobooks on it however. I'm currently listening to A Wolf at the Table and Magical Thinking by Augusten Burroughs.

Freddy Mercury is one of my all time favourite singers. His voice range was incredible. Queen was and still is, my all time favourite group as well. I saw them twice in my teens.

Yea muse is one of the best live bands I have seen. Black holes and revelations is a great album and their most solid to date imho.

With Shiny toy guns, I first heard "don't cry out" and was just in love with her voice, it's so clean and crisp but yet really edgy and hard. But I agree, not a solid album by them yet... I use the "skip" button a lot when I listen to them. It's either really good or really bad, but good enough to keep them on my 'mostly played' list. I just really love her voice.

I love the original major tom by Peter Schilling though. Hey wyatt do you like roxy music?
