Hi All,

I've asked this before but unfortunately gotten no responses. Hoping someone can help.

My fiancee will have her interview at the Embassy in San Jose, Costa Rica. I've looked through the forums, at the embassy website and have found no information regarding the following:

1) Vaccinations: What vaccinations does my fiancee need to have? She's gone to her doctor and unfortunately any records of her childhood vaccinations are no where to be found. Will she need vaccinations during the interview stage or just when we apply for her AOS?

2) Child: My fiancee has a 6 year old daughter who will be accompanying her here to the USA. Will the daughter be required to have a physical? Will she need additional vaccinations?

3) Child: There is no father's name listed on the daughter's birth certificate (he has never been a part of their life and has never met the child). Do we need anything special for the daughter to leave the country?

4) Interview: Does the child need to attend the interview with the mother?

5) Visa Fee: When are where is the visa fee paid? Do we pay the day of the interview or do we need to pay in advance at a bank?

6) Visa Issuance: How long after the interview is the visa issued? Can it be picked up at the Embassy or is it couriered to the beneficiary?

Thanks in advance for everyone's help!

Al

Hi Darnell,

Thanks but I've already been to the Costa Rica Portal and the Costa Rica Embassy pages. The Embassy website gives scant information and I've even PM'ed a member who recently had their visa interview in San Jose (unfortunately he can not locate his packet 3 information sheet for me).

Really hope someone who has been through the Costa Rica Embassy still might have their packet 3 sheet and can give me insight as to the questions I've asked.

The packet 3 will specify the civil surgeon that your fiancee and her child will use for the medical exam. The medical is prior to the interview.

Where are you in the process? According to your timeline you have only received the NOA1.

From the embassy website: ( http://sanjose.usembassy.gov/consnonimmigr...html#Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Visas )

The visa interview fee can be paid at any branch of Banco Nacional. The visa interview fee is $131, and must be paid in colones. When you pay this fee, you should ensure that the Banco Nacional cashier gives you two copies of your receipt -- a white copy and a yellow copy. You must present both copies of the receipt at the Embassy the day of your interview.

If your visa is approved, we will keep your passport for processing. Passports are returned for pickup at a DHL office chosen by the applicant. The cost of the service is 2450 colones. Beginning November 1, 2008, the cost will increase to 3250 colones. Delivery usually takes 3 to 4 business days.

We had our interview on Friday, 2/5/10, Passports/visas were picked up the following Wednesday at the Embassy. Everything aside from that is paid up front. Brucester.

Here is the link to the London Embassy list. Page 7 shows a table of what is or isn't required according to age. She can ask her doctor to do a titre test, which will show her immunities. I believe she should be able to use the results of this test in place of her vaccination schedule. Failing that as an option, she would need all the ones listed according to her age.

2) Child: My fiancee has a 6 year old daughter who will be accompanying her here to the USA. Will the daughter be required to have a physical? Will she need additional vaccinations?

Yes and maybe yes. My 10 year old will need Hep B because this isn't routinely offered in the UK. The only exception to the link I gave is the HPV, which was removed from the schedule on Dec 14 2009.

3) Child: There is no father's name listed on the daughter's birth certificate (he has never been a part of their life and has never met the child). Do we need anything special for the daughter to leave the country? This is region specific, so sorry can't help you on this one :(

4) Interview: Does the child need to attend the interview with the mother?

Not in London, and as she's under 14, I'd be surprised if anywhere else. But again, region specific. I'd hate to misadvise you.

5) Visa Fee: When are where is the visa fee paid? Do we pay the day of the interview or do we need to pay in advance at a bank?

answered by PPs

6) Visa Issuance: How long after the interview is the visa issued? Can it be picked up at the Embassy or is it couriered to the beneficiary?

answered by PPs

Thanks in advance for everyone's help!

Welcome :)

Al

Hi Brucester,

Congrats on getting through the interview at San Jose. If you could post some of the details regarding the interview I'd apprecate it... Such as questions asked, etc...

Also,

If you could PM me with the list of Drs. that the Embassy specified for the interview I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

Al

SunDrop et al...

I emailed the Embassy and they replied stating that Vanessa's 6 year old daughter would need to attend the interview... I was surpised at the response but if that's what they want, that's what they'll get.

Hope you're having a great day!

Alan

Moving to the Latin America, Mexico & the Caribbean sub-forum so you can get more consulate-specific replies -- less confusing that way!

Best of luck to you and your family. :)
