Packet 3 question...

The instructions in the Packet 3 state that...

"Step 2: Please complete but DO NOT SIGN form DS-230 Part I, 2 copies of form DS-156 and form DS-156k and return them to the consulate.

Step 3: Please sign DS-2001-HNK and the Documents Checklist and return them to this office when you have obtained all the required documents for the visa interview."

My question is, should my fiance do Step 2 now and send back the 3 forms mentioned immediately, or should she wait until all the items on the checklist are compiled and then do Steps 2 and 3 together? In other words, should the 3 forms in Step 2 be sent back right away?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Complete all of the forms and return them to the Consulate. Another letter with your interview appointment will arrive once they have processed your packet. During the interview, you will sign DS-230 in front of the interviewer.

8-30-05 Met David at a restaurant in Germany

3-28-06 David 'officially' proposed

4-26-06 I-129F mailed

9-25-06 Interview: APPROVED!

10-16-06 Flt to US, POE Detroit

11-5-06 Married

7-2-07 Green card received

9-12-08 Filed for divorce

12-5-08 Court hearing - divorce final

A great marriage is not when the "perfect couple" comes together.

It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.

Thank you, Jen. So are you saying to NOT do Step 2 now?

The reason I am asking is because Step 3 says to wait until all the items in the checklist have been compiled before doing Step 3. Step 2 does not state that, so should those forms be sent in first?

Hi,

I completed and sent step 2 the very same day. Step 3, i gathered all of the information required, had my medical, ticked all of the boxes and then sent the Step 3 checklist back by itself. now im waiting for a date, im sure i did it the correct way round, but if you feel different do it the way you see is correct..

Regards and best of luck

That sounds right to me. I just wanted to be certain. Thanks so much for your advice. Be well and best of luck to you both.

jangler,

Up to you.

Also, depending on how long the waiting time for an interview is, and how long it takes to collect all of the required documents, many people do step 3 before they actually have the documents.
