Filing DS 230 and other forms

Hi all, I want to apologize in advance if this answer appears anywhere. I couldn't find it.

I was on the US consulate Montreal website and saw that it mentions that they receive the DS 230. I thought the form came from NVC and is to be sent back to NVC.. I s When packet 3 arrives from NVC doesn't it all go back to them, including DS230/birth certificate/criminal record search.

I thought I was clear on this until I read this on the website ...

ps...sorry this is amended....I didn't read this on the Montreal website, it was anotherh site ...I'm kind of brain dead tonight but it does appear on something I read and can't find now that I've off the site. But the question remains

For USC's that reside in Canada can do all directly to the consulate... otherwise it comes from NVC for stateside filers

Thanks....question: USCs don't file the DS 230 , the beneficiary does. Also, unless I misunderstood your posting, I am aware that it comes from NVC and am wondering if I return it there? I'm the beneficiary in Canada.

USC's that live in Canada can petition for there immediate relative directly to the consulate... For those petitions case files that are filed directly with the consulate, the beneficiaries will submit the DS-230 directly to the consulate as well.

For stateside submitted petitions, the DS-230 is sent to NVC

Ok thanks again. We aren't doing DCF and she's in the USA and I'm in Canada. I was pretty clear given the NVC flowchart but I was thrown off by that site that showed the filing to be done at Montreal Embassy. You're saying that's the case for consular filing only. I assume then that those taking part in electronic processing to file at Montreal are all those doing direct consular filing?

I don't know what site you were reading, but it's wrong. Even with DCF I guess you can technically say you file the DS-230 there, but that's only because you take it with you to the interview.

Anyway, forget all about that, it has nothing to do with your petition. The beneficiary fills out the DS-230 and it is then mailed to NVC with the civil documents that accompany it. Only part 1 should be signed, part 2 - while still mailed to NVC, is signed at the interview.

Thank you. I was on track and accurate until I read this thing and it got me thinking. It also stated that the timeframe between case closure at NVC and interviews at Montreal were 2 months but that doesn't seem the case either.

I appreciate the replies and am now back on the initial and straight track for this. The confusion was because I thought I was on the consulate site but I wasn't. Thanks.

No problem, it almost sounds like you were reading information for a K visa rather than IR1/CR1
