As audience members streamed out of Pres. Obama's rally on behalf of AG Martha Coakley (D) here tonight, the consensus was that the fault for Coakley's now-floundering MA SEN bid lies with one person -- George W. Bush.

"People are upset because there's so many problems," Rosemary Kverek, 70, a retired Charleston schoolteacher said as tonight's rally wrapped up. "But the problems came from the previous administration. So we're blaming poor Obama, who's working 36 hours a day ... to solve these problems that he inherited."

Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D-RI), speaking with a gaggle of reporters after the event, said that while state Sen. Scott Brown ® offers voters a quick fix, in reality, the problems created by "George Bush and his cronies" are not so easily solved.

"If you think there's magic out there and things can be turned around overnight, then you would vote for someone who could promise you that, like Scott Brown," Kennedy said. "If you don't, if you know that it takes eight years for George Bush and his cronies to put our country into this hole ... then you know we have a lot of digging to do, but some work needs to be done and this president's in the process of doing it and we need to get Marcia Coakley to help him to do that."

(Curiously, Kennedy mentioned Coakley repeatedly during his remarks to reporters, each time referring to her as "Marcia," not "Martha.")

More Kennedy: "One thing the Democrats have done wrong? We haven't kept the focus on this disaster on the Republicans who brought it upon us. We've tried too hard to do that right thing, and that's to fix it, as opposed to spend more of our time and energy pointing the finger at who got us [here] in the first place."

Blaming their problems on Bush does carry a risk for Dems, however -- with their sights so firmly focused on the past, Brown's campaign has managed to wrest the "change" mantle from them.

Meanwhile, even as Kennedy took on both Bush and Brown head-on, some attendees were more muted in their criticism of Brown.

"I mean, he is handsome," Christine DiPitro, 61, of Malden, said of Brown.

"He does appeal to the regular guy with his truck, but that's about all."

I don't care what the vote says, Obama is not going to let the Healthcare bill slip through his boney fingers.

They will play the Vote recount game, or do any trick they need to... to runout the clock and get it passed.

Yes Obamer has a beautiful smile but he is from Chicago-Land politics, you don't play that game without knowing how to "get it done".

Personally I do not care why she loses...just so she does. I would be glad to credit GWB, or Rush Limbaugh, hey whoever they want to blame it on is fine by me.

I'd rather credit Scott Brown for running a good, positive campaign.

NO!!!!!!! While I agree that Scott Brown has run a very "high road" and effective campaign, we DO NOT want the Democrats saying they were beaten fair and square. You WANT the Democrats to run around making excuses like GWB or Rush Limbaugh or Global Climate Change...star alignments...whatever! The longer they are are in denial, the better for your country. Whenever your opponent is going in the wrong direction...encourage them!!!

Fact is the Democrats in Mass have no idea how to run a campaign or "run" for office. They have been spoiled. But Coakley is not a Kennedy and people of Mass do not just vote for Democrats, though they voted for Kennedys. They had a Republican Governor until just recently. The Democrats have taken this for granted and they will now lose andI hope they do not realize it for, oh, 8-10 years. Nobady is fainting at Obama "concerts" anymore, he cannot fill a basketball arena and now he is getting heckled...in MASS!!!!!!! The party is over. In the end, people really wanted the change he spoke of and didn't deliver. FOUR YEARS after turning over the congress we are STILL in Iraq and Afghanistan, gasoline is STILL near $3 per gallon, Guantanamo is STILL open, the recession is WORSE we do not have and have no chance at "universal health care" as that concept was sold down the road for the "Louisiana Purchase" I mean, for goodness sakes, WHO in their right mnd would buy a 2000 page insurance policy requiring you pay premiums for THREE years before getting coverage???????????!!!!!!!!!!! (and they call that "competition"? Which insurance company can do that?) Ad then to find out the will require you to pay premiums at least as much or more than you pay now, higher taxes and higher deductibles. It is preposterous? And this should be saved? This should be euthanized!!!!!! And they still blame all the problems on GWB which means we have NO chance of fixing anything. Great.

They will try to keep it alive (on life support) but the only way it will pass after tomorrow is if the US House drops its version and adopts the Senate version as passed. Thereby eliminating a need to send back a compromise bill to the Senate. Trying to ram it through the Senate will not work. Immediately upon the election, the interim Senator for Kennedy loses his vote (under Mass. statute he holds his position only until an "election is held")

They will try this of course, and the US House may go along with it just to get the framework of control in place (that IS what this is about) The DEMS know they are going to lose BIG TIME this fall, they need to do this now, however some of the Dems in the house may just figure their jobs are more precious than this trophy for (former) Lord Obama and reneg on the deal and say it is because of some poisin pill from the Senate. Remember, ALL the US House must be re-elected this year, only 1/3 of the Senators have to face election, so it is real big of the Senators to ask the Representatives to fall on THEIR sword because Coakley couldn't get her head out of her @ss. Yeah, sure. Each day the people make it more clear they do not like this health care bill. Tomorrow ought to be a very resounding put down of this bill and of Obama. The Dems have follishly made it the point of this race and when they lose they have made it clear why. Blaming GWB is just silly. The Dems drew the line in the sand and they know very well what this is about.
