The Packet 3 Instructions for Bangkok ask the applicant for DS230 Part 1. Does this mean that she should simply disregard Part 2? Should she send them the uncompleted pages or leave them out all together? Also, by answering question 43a and 43b on DS230 Part 2, this can expedite her social security card. Therefore, we would like to answer these items in Part 2. Someone who has completed the process in Bangkok please respond. Thanks.

Didn't go through Bangkok -

However, on the instructions for that form :

This form (DS-230 Part I) is the first of two parts.
This form (DS-230 Part II), together with Form DS-230 Part I, constitutes the complete Application for Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration.

So I would think you would fill out both parts. (Ankara wanted the whole thing filled out, I can't imagine why Bangkok would be different.)

Their K-1 instructions state this though:

You must completely fill out all forms. If a question does not apply to you, write ‘Not applicable’. Do not leave questions blank. Incomplete or inaccurate documentation will delay visa processing.

Each document must be submitted in original and with a photocopy for each traveling

The DS-230 is only complete if it has both Part I and II.

Curious to see what someone who went through there finds out.

(btw - that SSN part is for K-3/CR-1 type visas, it doesn't grant one with the K-1 - they won't issue a SSN - you have to go to the SSA to get one after entry)

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

Dont know about Bangkok, but in Paris they only wanted part I of DS 230 for my K1 visa.

Did they require you to complete Part 2 at a later time, such as at the interview? Or was part 2 simply omitted?

From the embassy info:

Note: Just to prevent any confusion, "Optional Form 171" in this packet talks about having DS-230 PART 2 completed. If you are applying for a K1 Fiance visa you do not need this and it should not have been included in your packet if it was. If you fill in forms and print online, discard PART 2 of DS-230.

K-1 visa applicants / beneficiaries ONLY fill out Part I of the DS-230.

If there is an exception, please, make a note ?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

So it looks like it's embassy specific...

From the best of my wife's recollection she did NOT fill out part II -

others have also said that for a K-1 it doesn't matter - moreover

questions 43a & 43b are moot because the visa holder has to apply

for the social security card on US soil.

We reviewed this form before I left Bangkok but she sent it in herself a week after I left.

I hope that helps.

Congratulations!!! I'm happy for the both of you. I'm glad to hear that you are married. Yes, thanks for the advice, there is some wrong information on the Bangkok Embassy website about getting a social security number that led me to think that the process could begin before she gets here. Anyway, our Packet 3 should go out by EMS this Saturday unless the police certificate is further delayed. Take care.
