Just wondered if anyone has any websites for which they have used to get temporary medical insurance. I have looked at a few sites and most of them say for Permanent Citizens, Green Card Holders. Found one company usnetcare.com, anybody else used these? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I think it depends on the stage you move to- I know here in Arkansas Blue Cross Blue Shied has short term medical insurance (30- 180 days) which is available to anyone in the country legally, and it takes effect from the date postmarked on your forms/ cheque, so you can get it the day after you arrive. We used it when we first got here and they were very good about paying for all the kid's well-child checkups and catch-up vaccinations. You are inelligible if pregnant or have pre-existing conditions though.

I looked at their short term policy but in the brochure it states 'You must be a resident of the state in which

you are applying, a legal resident of the U.S.' So i assumed as i wont have my green card yet i would not be eligible for it.

Hi, I used Seven Corners for the first 6 months for my daughter and myself. We are now on my husbands work policy. I wouldn't recommend them as when I needed to see a GP, all the practices here in NC were very suspicious of the company as they had never heard of them before and it would have required them to do alot of paperwork every time we went to see the Dr. Fortunately we managed without a GP but it was reassuring to have it in case of an emergency (which it is much better for). For pre-existing conditions or if there is any chance you may fall pregnant within the first year of the policy then it would be prudent to be added to your husbands work insurance instead. Good luck finding the right policy!

try COBRA.

Do you understand what COBRA is? Probably not because if you did you wouldn't be suggesting it as an option

How does a person become eligible for COBRA continuation coverage?

To be eligible for COBRA coverage, you must have been enrolled in your employer's health plan when you worked and the health plan must continue to be in effect for active employees. COBRA continuation coverage is available upon the occurrence of a qualifying event that would, except for the COBRA continuation coverage, cause an individual to lose his or her health care coverage.

To the OP- I would suggest researching travel insurance plans that include medical coverage from your country of origin. You could probably be covered under one of those until you are married and are eligible for coverage under your spouse's medical insurance
