divorce gift list

A high street store is launching a gift list service for people getting divorced.

It comes at a time when "congratulations on your divorce" greetings cards are gaining popularity and divorce celebration parties are being held by the likes of Jordan, Gail Porter and Heather Mills.

Peter Moore, head of retail services at Debenhams, said: "With so many couples now living together before they marry, the Wedding Gift List concept is now regarded as more of an upgrade service, rather than stocking up the first home with the basics.

"However, a divorce means that one partner will be leaving the marital home and therefore be left without any essentials in their new house."

The retailer said items expected to be popular included: cookware, cutlery, crockery, glasses, bed linen, towels, small electrical goods such as toasters and microwaves as well as non-iron shirts, large plasma screen TVs and computer games.

Mr Moore added: "Divorcing can be an expensive time and registering for a Divorce Gift List means that family and friends can help the newly separated begin their new life."

The retailer has run its Wedding Gift List service for more than a decade.

The average couple includes 120 items on their list, totalling £1,500.

That's just fvcked up.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

I have been to a few divorce parties, but they involved alcohol, not household appliances. :P

The concept of divorce has drastically changed in a very short period of time. Before, it was thought to be a sad occasion whereby two parties could no longer sustain a marriage. The concept of a divorce party, seems to have changed this notion of divorce to be a rite of passage to be celebrated.

I hope they offer a childrens line of gifts... maybe they want to celebrate mom and DAD GOINGS TO SPLITS-CITY too.

This is more of a pathetic marker on our culture than anything.

It's not that I don't enjoy dark humor, I do but these are the things which diminish the serious undertaking marriage might be.

Sure some marriages do end.. but to celebrate?

Not "celebration" maybe....but why the hell not? friends gathering together to help another back on their feet....I'd rather that than any bridal/baby shower.

After a round of golf one Saturday with the guys, one of my dad's good friends said that he couldn't go to the club's bar. His divorce had been finalized that Thursday, and the guys wanted to celebrate with him. He said thanks but that he couldn't stay. When asked why, he said that he had "to go home and divvy up the Tupperware."
