Uh-oh. Neither does Canada. I don't like where this is going...

 - so true.

Canada should accept them since Canada at least has money.

We do already accept a lot of them as refugees.

Timbits are no reason to take over Canada!

On second thought...sigh. Yes they are. Those little balls of doughy goodness.

My opinion: A "poor" country should just be left alone , what are we wanting to play monopoly with countries?

It's their country and they should do with it as they wish, whether they want to live a humble life or a western life, it's not up to the "rich" countries to decide or to interfere, charity should start at home, and it's charity the US surely needs now more than ever.

International politics is a bit more complex than adopting a survival of the fittest attitude towards these things.

The US has a fairly controversial history with Haiti, and like Cuba - being located as it is in a strategically important position it is in the US own interest to maintain some sort of interest in the outcome of events there.

Had they adopted your attitude in the 1960s over the Cuban Missile crisis, the cold war would not have stayed cold for very long.

Haiti has no real, functioning government. It's time we call a spade a spade here and claim Haiti as U.S. territory.

Third World labor potential. Stabilizing the government and building a decent infrastructure would bring all the greedy corporations who have been kept at bay.

Most of the country is illiterate... if it were a viable labor option it would have been exploited already...

Good grief, they had a massive natural disaster that's wiped out 200,000 people! It's not like Obama sat there going, "hmmm, I need a country to invade" and waved a pin around a world map....

Oh they want to be there....if they can have access to cheap labor. The corrupt government has kept them at bay.

Its kinda of like if you're the first on the scene of a car crash, who is better positioned to help - you or the driver 20 miles away?
