As the ignorant foreigner, I would like to know what MLK stood for. Did he stand for any of the following that are common in various AA communities in 2010.

  • Ghettos - The propensity to destroy and neglect areas.
  • Crime - Various types of crime. From battery to assault.
  • Homicide - People being shot dead left, right and center. AA having to sleep in the center of their house in-order to not be killed by a stray bullet; a bullet fired by other AA might I add
  • Clear lack of interest in Education - Evidently, would rather chill with the homies than start a legitimate business, learn a trade or go to school.
  • Lack of desire to work or improve one's circumstances - Easier to sell narcotics or steal.
  • Inclination to label anyone a snitch who wants to improve their community and rid it of crime

Before anyone gets their panties in a twist. Does this apply to everyone? No. Is this most common in predominately AA communities throughout America? Damn straight. Anyone denying it is either ignorant or basically lying/stupid. Or lives in a state where less than 15% of the population is AA.

The question I pose to people is: Had MLK still been alive, is this what he would call progress and success? Personally, I would rather be told where not to sit than have to fear for my family's life every single day; particularly, from my own 'people' shooting me.

When you think of his dream and what he battled for, he basically wasted his time and life. It's quite sad actually.

From an outsiders perspective, rather than actually integrate, it seems to me that a hell of a lot of post 70's born AA (not all) have done everything and anything they can to be the total opposite to mainstream. Including something as silly as wearing clothing 10 times their size, that hang half way down their leg.

But you're not an ignorant foreigner. You are a US citizen. If they didn't ask you any questions about MLK on your test, then he must not be that important.

How many times do we need to go through this bud? I am not a US citizen.

Hey, I think Caucasians got the message better than AA. Over a year, how many times will you hear a Caucasian talk about white this or that? Now over a week how many times will you hear some AA mention black this or that? At least once or twice. My understanding of integration and equality is that you don't create silos and refer to your own by race based on skin color 24/7. That's how we do it in Aus, where 25% of the population is foreign born; from a multitude of countries.

Since moving here four years ago, the difference between black and white has been shoved down my throat on a daily basis; with it predominately coming from AA. Therefore, how can we ever be equal when the person who claims to want to be equal, who claims has been discriminated against based on their race, shoves their race down my throat daily. Ironically, talks it up like they are better than everyone else, furthermore, is the most ethnocentric group of people I have ever come across in the entire world.

Certainly does not sound like anything MLK stood for. Actually, it's the total opposite and ironically what he fort against.
