International Marriage Certificate ok?

We have an international marriage certificate - has info in probably 15 other languages, including English. Main form is in French (bolded) and Bosnian. Should I highlight pertinent information (including the English legend) as well as dates as they are in dd/mm/yyyy form and attach a paper explaining this?

Our DCF was done with just this certificate and they did not require any translations so I'm hoping this certificate will suffice.

If it is accompanied by an English translation (which you say is imbedded in the document) then it should suffice

YMMV

Never heard of an international marriage certificate, did hear about an international drivers' license. How did you get it?

When I got started in this stuff, learned about international agreements between any two countries as to whether they honor a marriage or a divorce from that country. Some do, some don't and can go darn near crazy trying to learn. Still didn't get a firm answer if Colombia recognizes a Venezuelan divorce where the marriage was performed in Colombia. Calling the various consulates of these countries is not much different than calling the USCIS for a firm answer if not much worse.

Would be nice if the person on the other end of the phone would say, I really don't know instead of giving you the wrong answer. Depending on whom you talk to, and get either a positive or a negative answer.

Life would be much simpler if their was such a thing as an international marriage and divorce. This issue is further complicated if the country you are dealing with has a strong religion base where a conflict exist between that church and civil matters. It's crazy.

Even in this country, a religious institution can perform a legal civil marriage, but cannot perform a legal separation divorce. Can give an annulment, but not recognized by the state. The more you get involved in stuff like this, the more you realize what a screwed up world we live in.

Got it at the same time when we got the local certificate since my husband is a foreigner in Bosnia. The form is based off of an international convention and countries signatories of the convention use pretty much the same form.

Had we gotten married in the US I know I would have had to go through the Bosnian consulate to register the marriage back in Bosnia or done it when we returned to the country. I have a friend who has attempted several times to register her US marriage in Bosnia and ended up giving up since they want apostilled certificate - not a problem - signed by the same person who did the marriage certificate - impossible since the certificate has to go to the state governor for apostille.
