My wife and I are still yet a while to go before we get done with this Journey, but I wanted to give a special thanks today to all of ya'll here in the Canada forum in particular. This process has driven me up the wall a number of times, and its good to have a bunch of great people to relate to, outside of my wife of course (who is just awesome and makes this thing worthwhile). It means a lot, and I hope I can stay active and potentially useful to others in this same situation.

I can't wait to have my wife (and soon to be dual citizened kiddo) here in Dallas with me.

Its been a little over 6 months now since USCIS first received my petition, so not doing so bad!

I too want to say thank you. I am so glad to have found and landed on these forums. So much support and help and information. Any questions I had were answered happily. My paperwork has also gone through without any RFE's which I owe to these forums - so thank you everyone for your kindness and patience.

Good luck to you all!

I'm curious to see who will be the first person to say, "You're welcome". :P

Seriously though, this forum has shaved at least a month off of my wait time, has clarified every step of the way, has allowed me to be thoroughly organized and prepared for all portions, and has also become a community for me to goof around with, vent to and enjoy conversations with.

If I'd been here last March when my wife (then fiancee) and I started (and ultimately erred on) the K-1 process, I would have surely been in the U.S. by now. Though I'll admit that the CR-1 has been a much better path for us, all things considered.

So yes -- thanks VJ! Too many helpful and friendly folks here to mention by name. :)

No, it's fine. I don't want to detract from this thread, but in a nutshell...

We filed for the K-1 last March, but we didn't realize that we had to wait for its approval BEFORE we got married. We misunderstood the purpose of "adjustment of status" and thought it meant we could adjust the K-1 to a K-3 while it was in process. It was a REALLY dumb mistake in retrospect, knowing what we know now...but when you read through all of USCIS's documentation on a K-1, it doesn't actually say anything like, "Marriage prior to the issuance of the K-1 Visa renders said Visa null and void" or anything. Long story short, we didn't fully understand the process when we went ahead with it, and paid for it in terms of time and money. Realistically it's going to work out for the best for us, since I'll be a PR, able to work as soon as I cross the border... but it cost us being together several months earlier than what we will be. In a sense, we'll have been in the immigration process for a year, provided I get a March interview date.

So the bottom line of all that is: if I'd been on VisaJourney last March, I would have KNOWN all of the details. That's how powerful of a resource VJ is!

Ditto on all of the above -- you guys all pretty much rock and to be frank? I would NEVER have known about the EI thing, nor would I have been able to have all my little queries and stuff answered so well. you all paired with research have made a daunting task a little more bearable.

Not to mention, you're a fine, hilarious and awesome group of people...

JUST KIDDING!!!!

Yeah! Back in July when we learned we were going to have to start the process over again with the CR-1, we strongly considered getting a lawyer. My wife did most of the legwork for the K-1 attempt and she was so annoyed with the paperwork and all of the conflicting information etc. and didn't want us to screw up again. Fortunately I decided to delve into the details myself and found VJ. I didn't register until October, but I DID make use of the guides and searched the forums in July and August for pertinent information. So even back then VJ was a huge help for me, even though none of you "knew" me then (and I'm sure some of you wish you didn't "know" me now...:P).

Yeah, we're basically awesome around here! :D

This site is great, absolutely. A lot of nice people have helped me along the way, not only through the immigration process but in providing advice in how to adjust to life in a new country. The great think about Visa Journey is you take help and advice from others and use that knowledge to return the favor to people in similar positions down the road.

Wyatt- Man that sucks!! We almost did the same thing. At least, we were thinking about it pretty seriously until I stumbled upon VJ and read the information available. Seems like a silly mistake but you're right, USCIS doesn't exactly spell it out for you. Could have happened to anyone, really.
