Hi, Guys,

My name is Kate. I am a green card holder. And my two month old daughter is an Amrecian citizen. So, in the nearest future we are going to Russia with her to visit relatives. She needs Russian visa. Who has any experiance with that? Did you hire a visa company or did you do it by yourselves? I live in Chicago. May be somebody could tell me reliable visa companies? I looked online and there are tons of them and I am so frustrated. We didnt apply even for her passport yet. Any advices?

Thank you in advance.

I've made about 10 trips to Russia and always used www.russia-visa.com and never had a problem. Get started on her passport right away.

Yes, I think you need to have written permission from the father, and having it in both languages would be great.

Cheap is good, but I want a company that is closest to the embassy since that is whom they are dealing with.

I second Russia-visa.com. I've used them several times and they are reliable. They are located in Washington, DC. Together with FedEX charges, a one-month tourist visa will run you about $200 if you are willing to wait 10 business days. You can do it faster if you have to.

Yes. Avoid taking small children on planes - esp. during international trips - at all costs.

As for getting a visa - I've made 3 trips to Russia. Never used one of those companies. I wouldn't waste money on a third party. They can't do anything you can't do. Just send your stuff to the local consulate with the proper papers and money for fees. Follow instructions. Not rocket science here.

PEOPLE: READ THE APPLICATION FORM INSTRUCTIONS!!!! They have a lot of good information in them! Most of the questions I see on VJ are clearly addressed by the form instructions. Give them a read!! If you are unable to understand the form instructions, I highly recommend hiring someone who does to help you with the process. Our process, from K-1 to Citizenship and U.S. Passport is completed. Good luck with your process.

completely untrue. These third parties get you a tourist voucher/invitation w/o which you cannot get a tourist visa.

It's completely true.

You can get an invitation from a company without using them to get the visa, which you can get yourself. You do not need a "visa company" to get your visa.

What am I missing?

A Russian citizen has a daughter in the US. The child gets US citizenship based on the place of birth and Russian citizenship based on the nationality of the mother. Me thinks. I thought all that's needed is a Russian passport for the child. Somebody please educate me . . . .

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

The child is eligible for Russian citizenship, but would have to apply for it. Not everyone wants their US-born children to have Russian citizenship, especially those with male children.

Can you get an invitation all by yourself? And is it free?
