curiosity about expediting

I've read a few things which suggest that, if you have definite travel plans in the near future, it could be possible to expedite your visa case. I'm just curious to what sort of situation this applies to and how one would go about it?

Of course we all have to be patient and I'm in no way hopeful that there is any way of speeding things up, but my student visa for the UK runs out in June and we have a wedding reception planned for ourselves with all my American relatives in July and it's looking like my husband's visa won't be approved in time. If we'd thought it would take longer than the end of July we'd have gone for a K-3 but unfortunately some forms got lost in the mail on their way to us so things have gotten delayed more than we had planned for so we're trying to look into possible ways of getting around things. Doubtful, but I am curious about any experiences others have had.

Patiently waiting...

I-864 sent to NVC on Feb 7, not recieved yet by NVC - any day now!

One of the reasons for expedite is "extreme hardship". Extreme hardship is defined as something that is a significant loss of money or life that can not be prevented if the case isn't expedited. Visas expiration, wedding receptions, travel costs, housing costs etc... are not extreme hardship.

To go about asking for an expedite you should write the NVC and ask. I don't think you will qualify but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Are you sure you're on the K-3 path? Sending in an I-864 to the NVC indicates that you are following the Immigrant Visa path.

Now That You Are A Permanent Resident

Yes, even this last one.. stuff in there that not even your USC knows.....

I thought this:

...we'd have gone for a K-3 but...
+ her posting in the IR-1/CR-1 forum + her using the I-864 suggested otherwise, but no worries. :) Edited by girl 37
