Well my wedding is in 3 weeks!

We are madly cutting costs on it and i wondered if i could ask some advice?

Instead of real flowers, which are expensive to order etc. Do you think i couuld get away with making my own with silk flowers? They keep forever too.

There are 5 bridsmaids and me and the 5 best men and of course Steve.

Also for the centre peices for the tables, do you think a bowl of water (crystal bowl) with white floating candles and rose petals will be ok?

We are having 75 people and my mom and dad cant afford to pay anymore LOL... so im looking for any tips you may have:)))

Thanks guy:)

Definetly make your own bouquets with silk or even fresh flowers purchased from your grocers versus a florist. Larger grocery stores with a florist in house, will make the booteners for very little moolah. Go to some craft shop pick up lots of inexpensive ribbon to wrap around the stems of your bouquets, and use on table decorations as well. I did all of my decorations myself with silk flowers, ribbons, xmas baubbles and lots of candles purchased at one of those everything is a $1 store. I was lucky the ceremony was right before xmas so lots out there at very cheap prices. I have used them for christmas the last two years. They turned out beautiful and for about five tables, booteneers and my bouquet I might have spent $100. Use your imagination, and get creative on a budget! Borrow crystal candle holders, and bowls from family doesn't matter if they match if used together in a grouping with the candles it would make a very nice sparkle. I am sure it will turn out lovely no matter what!

I shopped at $1 stores and got a lot of cute things for our reception. Do you have a Costco? They have great flowers at reasonable prices I got 2 doz roses for $15 and bought a great cake there for $14 that served 25-50 people depending on how small you cut it.

The crystal bowls with floating flowers sound really pretty.

Good luck and just enjoy the day , cause when it all comes down to it it's the people you are with not what the decorations are.

In fact, if you asked most guests what I had as decorations at the wedding they would say I can't remember, but I can remember your cool ceremony and the fact that no one could find a lighter to light the unity candle.

I think your idea of a bowl of water with floating candles or blossoms sounds lovely. I borrowed a library book that did creative things with glassware (cake stands, bowls) that you could find a a yard sale or thrift shop. It was something like Simply Elegant Weddings (although don't quote me on that). There were neat ideas for table decorations there.

Don't rule out fresh flowers if you really want them. http://www.freshroses.com/ has really nice roses and they are really inexpensive. But if you like silk flowers, it's YOUR wedding, go for it!

What kind of flowers are you wanting to have? Corsages and boutonnieres and bouquest? I found a website for you on how to make boutonnieres: http://www.ehow.com/ehow/ehow.jsp?id=17568 (sorry the embed links thingie doesn't work in my browser). I used to work in a florist, so I could make them in my sleep, but I seem to recall that was one of the first things we showed new people how to do.

If you want to do hand-tied bouquets, they are really easy. You can get a bunch of roses, trim the stems to the desired length, wrap exposed stem with thick ribbon and tie a bow around it. They can be really lovely. If you don't make the ribbon go down all the way, you can do this ahead and store them in a vase.

Good luck!!

You can save a lot of money by using non-floral centerpieces. I bought some hurricane vases on sale at Michael's crafts for $3 and some colored pebbles for 75 cents a piece. Add a candle, and it's a pretty centerpiece. Also, the Costco in my town has 2 dozen roses for $14.99. That's about 2 bridesmaid's bouquets! There are some online flower wholesalers (theflowerexchange.com, onlinewholesaleflowers.com, and 2groses.com) that have good prices, and have gotten good reviews on some other sites I've visited. Sometimes you can find fresh flowers cheaper than silk.

It can be done if you have patience and a little creativity. But, at the end of the day, people are going to remember how much fun they had and how much love they felt, not the centerpieces. Try not to stress out too much!

check with your hall about candles prior to the reception, at my first wedding the hall absolutely forbid candles, floating in water or otherwise. My brother had the same delima at his wedding at a local mansion, go figure hehehe...anyways they bought fishbowls, popped a beta fish and clolourd pebbles and poor instant centrepieces and the kids all got to go home with a pet. conincidently there were just the same amount of fish as kids at the reception LOL it was kool, and not in a cheesy carnival prize sort of way :)

I think you have good ideas...and yes you can do your own flowers in silk, its much much much cheaper and can be a fun get together with the bridesmaids wiring and wrapping the flowers...make sure you do that dont just use them on the stems, the heads of the flowers might pop off....wire and tape is more secure.

Someone at my office just gave me a brill idea yesterday. We are getting married on the beach in key west...going to be a small & intimate destination wedding with just a few people. I was looking into what kind of centerpiece to use & wanted a sand sculpture, but the only one I can find is of a castle, which I think is stupid.

My colleague told me to go to a craft store & get a styrofoam mold, then just bathe it in glue & dip it in sand.

I'd rather have someone do it for me, lol, but at the end of the day, if I can't find what I want, then just make it myself. So will let you know how it turns out....but it's a great idea for anyone doing a beach theme, and I'm sure it can't be a lot of money.
