In a country whose national emblem is Marianne, a bare-chested woman, there is deepening concern over the all-encompassing garb, often black or brown and worn with gloves, attire typical in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states.

Which Muslim countries have the the highest precentage of women wearing very burkas? It's more than Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states, right?

Security concerns . . . perhaps.

The main issue is, IMHO, that citizens of a country usually accept foreigners with open arms, as they enhance a multi-cultural society and make life more interesting.

But that's only true up to a point when the foreigners become so large in numbers, that the "native" (for lack of a better word) citizens feel like strangers in their own land. France is France, and the French lifestyle has certain characteristics which, admittedly, will adapt slowly, given enough time. So I agree with many who said that if one wants to live in another country and become a citizen of it, needs to learn the language of it and should be willing to assimilate into that culture. If one, to use this particular example, wants to live a life guided by the Koran, as Muslim country is a much better place for that.

I give France 2 thumbs up for that, and am positive that other European countries will follow eventually. There is already a huge resistance of British people to erect a gigantic super Mosques in London. Her Majesty's Kingdom is about tea, tradition, the countryside, swinging London . . . not about Islam. But when I visit the Middle East, I embrace that culture and respect it and dress and behave accordingly to their tradition.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.
