Obama To Grant Immunity To Illegal Haitians

Maybe it would be helpful to see what TPS is and is not. It does not lead to legal permanent residence.

And citizens of several other countries have received TPS because of armed conflicts and natural disasters, some not even approaching what Haiti has experienced. A list from 2003 included Angola, Burundi, El Salvador, Honduras, Liberia, Montserrat, Nicaragua, Sierra Leone, Somalia, and Sudan. I haven't yet found a more recent list. In spite of armed conflict and numerous devastating hurricanes, including four in one year, Haitians have never before been granted TPS. They are not now receiving preferential treatment that was invented just for them. They are receiving humanitarian treatment as permitted by law.

nice post

Really? With all the nasty comments in this thread? Why don't you note the country flag on Marchlyne's post? I can't blame him/her for feeling angry right now.

Word is there is 100 to 200K illegal Haitians in the US. I've yet to see how many are being and have been deported daily?

How many Haitians does Opamas' decision really effect?

Best response yet -- maybe none were going to be deported anyway :wacko:

Yea I was just watching CNN when those ####**les were throwing food donated on the ground because they confused the manufacture date with the expiration. Let them wait another week and they will eat dirt or pick up the good food they threw on the ground. Are these the kind of assho*es we want in this country. Hell NOOOOOOOOOOOO!

wow seriously, what dumbasses

I searched for information on the refusal of aid because I rarely watch TV. It appears that there was one or two people confused and shouting out that the food was expired. Chaos ensued. Eventually the UN aid workers drove off because they couldn't convince people the food was safe. It's unfortunate and sad, but at the same time, having witnessed the after effects of Katrina in my own family, I can't really blame the people for being scared or confused. In the last two days what the Haitian people have experienced is hellish. And that's after years of conflict in their country.

Should they have refused the aid? No, of course not. But I don't know that there were ample efforts taken to make sure the distribution of aid was organized either.

But to blame them for their sufferings and get pissed because those Haitians living in the US right now who are out of status have a temporary refuge is mind-boggling.

So what your saying is one hateful or nasty comment deservers another ? Regardless of his/her/your feelings all it does is ad fuel to the fire, and resolves’ nothing!

Personally my view is this:

The OP didn't realise that it was TEMPORARY and not that he was suddenly making illegal's, legal.

I also don't think that anyone would expect people to be dumped off a plane into an unstable environment, but again, there are legal avenues that some refused to follow (I say some because i'm sure it's not "all") and that makes people who are struggling to do it the legal way, angry.

I don't know what options Obama has really... lock the people up in detention centres for an unknown period until it's stable?? That doesn't sound entirely FAIR but they did break the law. My personal opinion is they should be still "rounded up" and given the option, go back now, or be locked up in a detention centre until it's deemed safe to deport them. In either case they're given an option, and they're still being treated the way they should be, as criminals who broke the law and who should start taking responsibility for their actions.

I feel for the people of Haiti, it's an awful awful thing, but like said above, we're talking about the people who have ALREADY broken the law and been living in the US illegally, and not those who are suffering in their present conditions and seeking refuge.

Either they follow the law or they don't.

This time they did.

Why is it an issue? Maybe it has more to do with your agenda.

And what agenda is that?

No but when the country of the person is being attacked during a time of tragedy I can absolutely understand why his or her anger came to the surface.

Just checking in and I am very surprised. Let's just stop attacking each other. My advice is to just take a look at both sides and try to picture yourself in the other person's shoes. We are all on here sharing our individual experiences and learning from each other. We all are anxious to bring our loved ones to the United States but sometimes in life we just need to think of others and the plight that they may be going through.

I can agree with your point of view, but I don’t understand why you high-lighted and made a comment to my post? Really I don’t have an agenda and I've attacked know one only asked a question. I can tell you I’ve been thru death and destruction, in the 2004 earthquake in Indonesia and the resulting tsunami, and I’ll leave it at that.

The one that made you go back and edit your post to add Obama's approval ratings for some unknown reason.

Temporary protected status has NOTHING to do with Obama. It's a law, part of the code of federal regulations. It applies to all foreign nationals in the USA. If you read it, it's written exactly for this kind of crisis.

This is a rare instance where US immigration law includes some compassion, and thankfully the secretary of homeland security followed the law and did her job correctly.

I have to do it:

your= possession

you're= you are contraction

to= preposition or particle of an infinitive

too= adverb meaning excessive

Sorry, but when you make asinine comments about a poster rather than a topic I feel it necessary to pull out my grammar police badge.
