How long does it take to get a new SSC aftter you updated and got unrestriected ?

When I went to SSA, she took my old card, and I've not received a new card yet, it's been 2 weeks.

I have to wait for a while or have to go back to SSC again to follow up?

Thank.

If I'm not mistaken I recall someone saying don't let them take your old card until you get the new one.

I also recall someone saying how long it takes to get your card depends on how long it takes to verify your immigration status. If they did it while you were there you should have your new card within two weeks. If not you could be waiting possibly a month or more. What did they say while you were there?

When I went to get my unrestricted SSC I rather cunningly did not offer them my old SSC. They didn't ask for it, so now I've got both.

still waiting for mine. not sure if i should be concerned or following up with them?

If you applied February 1st something should have happened by now.

Go back into the office with the documents you used to apply.

You can also shoot SSA an e-mail to ask what's going on:

http://www.ssa.gov/feedback/

Include the application reference number 10032XXXXXX and phone number. A number would be probably be helpful as well.

You might need to play around with the reference number to get it to go through. SSA doesn't want people to e-mail their SSN and the system thinks the reference number is an SSN. Just put a couple spaces between the numbers or spell out the numbers and your message will go through.

still no card for me. i'm told they mailed it april 15th, potentially to the wrong address, but they're not sure.

You will need to reapply. Make sure that the mailing address is correct when you review the application. If the card was mailed to the wrong address, it must have been wrong on the application. SSN cards are mailed from SSA Headquarters and the card gets the mailing address that the SSA office inputs.

thanks. the SSA office input the wrong address, but i caught it and asked them to fix it. since it still hasn't arrived, i'm assuming they didn't fix it and i'll have to reapply.

Hey everybody:

So, I have a quick question. I have a social security card since the earth cooled (not really) through my parents when we moved to the states. It says "Valid only with INS authorization only". I just recently got my green card and hear it is better to replace that with a new one that does not have restrictions on it. So, I was wondering, on the ss5 form, do we check mark "legal alien allowed to work", or more likely "other". The other options besides these two would be "legal alien not allowed to work" and "US citizen". Which one a green card holder should check mark? "legal alien allowed to work" or "other". Thank you for your reply in advance! :)

Ps: I'm not taking my SSC along as I hear it is better to blame to dog who ate it...;)

Rather than post in a thread that is 2 1/2 years old, it would probably be better to just start your own new post in the future. You are a legal permanent resident: "legal alien allowed to work".
