Starting K1 process soon, have some questions

Hey guys, :)

We're still pretty new here, we've been reading since October and have made a couple posts but as we're getting closer to starting this process we just had some minor clarification questions. Any help would be super appreciated.

1. For our I-129f package, it states to have four copies of the G-325a form. Is this four for each of us (eight total) or two for each of us (four total)? Also, do we include all copies in the package or keep some for our records/interview/other purposes?

2. Looking at the fees for different forms, some state the price per person. Does that apply to each of us or to each person intending to immigrate (just myself (Kayla))?

3. My location in Canada places me at the Montreal embassy for my interview. Is there anything special to know for this location and how do they prefer you to do the medical? I'm having a little trouble understanding everything for the medical so any help there would be greatly appreciated.

Those are some of our first questions, I'm sure we'll be back with more :P But any help with these will again be very much appreciated as well as any extra advice or information.

Thanks!

Kayla

1. New form is just one. (you should keep copies of everything you send)

2. Just for the form. (since it's just you - one fee)

3. Will let other's from that part of the world answer that.

:guides: would be a good place to start !

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

can't answer the montreal-specific question (may want to re-post in the canada sub-section for a quicker answer)

The newer-style G-325 after you fill out the form in acrobat will populate the other forms and print out 4 copies all on 1-2 pages depending on your print options. I did submit 4 copies for each myself as petitioner and 4 copies for Vicky as beneficiary, all signed in a different color ink than the copy (blue).

The $455 I-129F form is for the pair of you. That's the only one you have to be concerned with at this time. You would have to list out which form # you had a specific question on, are you as the beneficiary a parent and a minor child is also coming on this same petition? Need more information.

It was really referring to any of the forms we'll have to fill out as opposed to a specific one. I'm not sure what you mean for the second part of this; if you're asking if I have children I would need to bring with me, I don't have any. It would just be me. :)

We have read through the FAQs and guides pretty extensively, just had some clarifying questions.

I believe there's quite a wait at Montreal for K1 interviews.

Beyond that, this may help:

Hey guys, :)

We're still pretty new here, we've been reading since October and have made a couple posts but as we're getting closer to starting this process we just had some minor clarification questions. Any help would be super appreciated.

1. For our I-129f package, it states to have four copies of the G-325a form. Is this four for each of us (eight total) or two for each of us (four total)? Also, do we include all copies in the package or keep some for our records/interview/other purposes? Make four copies of each G-325a. Yours and his.

2. Looking at the fees for different forms, some state the price per person. Does that apply to each of us or to each person intending to immigrate (just myself (Kayla))? The fee is for the person immigrating. If no children, just the one person then.

3. My location in Canada places me at the Montreal embassy for my interview. Is there anything special to know for this location and how do they prefer you to do the medical? I'm having a little trouble understanding everything for the medical so any help there would be greatly appreciated. There are lots of things you know know about Montreal, one being they're the slowest of Consulates. From the filing of a K-1 to interview completion, you could be looking at 9-12 months. They've been short staffed for months, however I now understand they are training new staff and hope to be up to full capacity shortly? Your medical isn't done until you're going to be sending in your package 3 back to Montreal, and some people wait until they get an interview date even. You can only have your medical done at an approved US civil surgeon that they have the names of. You'll also be required to have vaccination's up to date.

Those are some of our first questions, I'm sure we'll be back with more :P But any help with these will again be very much appreciated as well as any extra advice or information.

Thanks!

Kayla

I'd first read all you can about K-1 visas. Then, come on over to the Canada Forum here on VJ. Link is here:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showforum=93

Then you can also peruse the Canada VJ Wiki Guide for more information:

http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/Canada

THEN... you can also check out the links in the second posting of this next link. There are lots of unique things you'll want to know about visiting during the process, vaccination records, EI etc.

All right, so Montreal is pretty backed up. We do still have awhile before that part of the process so I guess we'll just keep an eye on things as we get closer to receiving interview dates. But they do like you to have your medical done within the week of your interview or so?

Thanks so much on the clarification for fees/forms. :) As far as the G-325a goes I guess we just aren't sure how many copies of it for each of us they want in the initial I-129f package. We planned on making copies of everything but we aren't sure if we'll need the four copies each to send as well as our own copies or four copies, send one or two and keep the others sort of thing.

The previous G-325 would print out 4 copies - which the instructions said you had to send in.

The current form prints out 1 - and the instructions say to only send in that one.

There has been discussions here about sending in 1 or 4 - and calls to USCIS gave conflicting answers, however, there are several people here that sent in just one of the new forms, and had no issues.

So I guess the choice is up to you (do you feel lucky??)

Ahh, okay, I see what you mean. Maybe we'll just go with one then. It doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense to send in four of the same document, IMO. :P

I sent 4 G325 forms for each of us. When in doubt more is better idea?!

Figured that way I'd be covered or if only 1 copy is necessary they could just throw out the extra copies.

Best advice I can give you is to follow the K-1 process flowchart, and only worry about one step at a time, taking things as they come. Right now your project is to get an I-129F packet together and sent off. Don't worry about Montreal and Packet 3 right now. There will be lots of time for that. The process is long but very linear. Just keep your eyes on your current step.

The biggest decision to make at this stage is whether or not to "front load" your I-129F petition: whether or not to include significant documentation of your entire relationship to this point with your I-129F petition. Doing so makes preparing the initial petition more work, but can simplify things with the Montreal consulate later on. Or it may make no difference at all. Search on "frontloading" on this site to find discussions about it, and read the arguments and discussions on each side carefully.

The rest is just following the example forms on this website and filling out your own forms. Read the instructions very carefully, quintuple check everything, and you'll be fine.

DON'T PANIC

"It says wonderful things about the two countries [Canada and the US] that neither one feels itself being inundated by each other's immigrants."

-Douglas Coupland

That is weird, because I am also doing the I-129F; my form instruction says send a copy of the G325A, now im confused. OMG :crying:
