Hi,

I just mailed my I 751 yesterday and today I got nervous that I was supposed to include passport style photos so I went to the uscis website and noticed that they updated the form 12/31/09 ... I printed out the form that expired October and sent that one ... is this going to be a problem?

Another question is how does one travel back to Canada with an expired green card with an NOA provided that I get one (my GC expires 02/21/10)

Met in Cleveland 07/07/05 ... Fireworks!!!

According to the USCIS website

Edition

12/30/09. Prior revisions are not accepted.

Likely they will reject it and ask for a re-submission

Once you have an accepted petition then the NOA will come and indicate that your GC has been extended for one year. So when travelling you show the expired card and the NOA that extends the card

YMMV

Hi Lynamon,

In answer to your questions:

-No need to submit passport style photos for the I-751. Your photo will be taken for your new 10yr green card when you get your fingerprints/biometrics done

-Just use whatever "latest version" of the form that they have, and they should accept that, as that's all that they have for you to submit.

-Yes, you can travel back to Canada and back to the USA with BOTH your expired 2yr green ard and NOA letter at the same time, with not too many problems. The NOA serves as a temporary green card while your case is pending, and is valid for travel and employment purposes. I've done this before, with not too many problems. other than the border guard asking me "where is your 10yr green card", when I showed them my expired 2yr card and NOA letter to which I said.."you tell me where my card is...I've been waiting for the last 10 months and I'm pregnant!".....(but that's another story..that involved freaking out...see my vj timeline for more info..lol....)

Hope this helps too. Good luck with your I-751 case too.

Looks like you'll be our first test case. LOL. (sorry) Hopefully it won't cause a problem, Lyna.

I entered the US a few times with the expired GC and NOA. All you do is present them both at the POE. It was no different than travelling with just the GC.

Nope - no photos needed Lynette - nice to see you back in the Cdn forum!

I just filed mine/my daughters last month and we've had biometrics already - went very smoothly. Barring an RFE (let's hope not)...I think the timelines show we'll have our 10 yr greencards end of March or beginning of April since I'm going through VSC.

I too am a little freaked out at the thought of traveling with an expired GC + NOA...just doesn't seem stable, ya know? :)

Wiz(USC) and Udella(Cdn & USC!)

Naturalization

02/22/11 - Filed

02/28/11 - NOA

03/28/11 - FP

06/17/11 - status change - scheduled for interview

06/20?/11 - received physical interview letter

07/13/11 - Interview in Fairfax,VA - easiest 10 minutes of my life

07/19/11 - Oath ceremony in Fairfax, VA

Removal of Conditions

12/2/09 - NOA's for self and daughter

01/12/10 - Biometrics completed

03/15/10 - 10 Green Card Received - self and daughter

What....4 months at the VSC for the I-751....That's what I call quick.....

I had to wait 10 months for mine (and I was pregnant at the time too..).....

Anyways, glad to see that there is an improvement in the system...hope you and your daughter get your cards too.

As for travelling with a 2yr green card an an noa....Yes, I agree...it's not very stable..

Lol..And it doesn't help that the NOA can fall apart easily...(mine certainly did.....water stains, dirt, and all..lol..)

And some border guards seem to be clueless about such..sp more questioning about that too...

Anyways, if that is your concern...Than I suggest you also get an I-551 stamp in your passport too, which is what I did..and it helped there...

The only drawback about getting the I-551 stamp is that they take the 2yr card away....

Hope this helps too. Good luck on your journey.
