In 2007, George W. Bush just missed our Top 20 top conservatives list – a provocative and controversial decision but one that reflected his disastrous poll ratings, the dismay of conservatives at out-of-control spending, the colossal mistakes over Iraq and his failure to consolidate the conservative majority he had won. Aides protested that history would vindicate him and already there are signs that this is happening. The Iraq "surge" of 2007 unquestionably won the war and has helped establish a viable democratic state in the heart of the Middle East. There were terrible errors committed along the way but Bush showed the vision and toughness to change course and commit American blood and treasure when all appeared lost.

I guess that makes this yesterday's news then, well it literally is yesterday's news but...

STORY HIGHLIGHTS

  • At least 25 people killed and 72 wounded in a triple bombing at crowded market in Najaf
  • Car bomb, two roadside bombs detonated in quick succession near the market in city center

RELATED TOPICS

(CNN) -- At least 25 people were killed and 72 were wounded in a triple bombing at a crowded market Thursday in Najaf, one of Iraq's holiest cities, an Interior Ministry official said.

A car bomb and two roadside bombs detonated in quick succession about 5:30 p.m. (9:30 a.m. ET) near the market in the city center. Thursday evenings are usually busy at markets as people start their weekend.

The blasts happened near a Shiite shrine.

Najaf, about 100 miles (160 km) south of Baghdad, is home to the tomb of Imam Ali, cousin of the Prophet Mohammed.

Iraqi and U.S. officials have warned of an increase in violence ahead of elections being held on March 7. Attacks in the Shiite heartland in southern Iraq are not as frequent as they are in other parts of the country.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Just a moment of triumph, soon as we leave, will go right back to the way it was. Separation of religion from state is a concept they could never accept, but the only way a democracy can succeed. And any religion is practically a dictatorship.

One big wasted effort taking the lives of our young and trillions of dollars that darn near if it didn't, bankrupt our country.

Violent crime happens here too, doesn't it?

Daily or near daily suicide bombings? No, don't think so...
