**I posted this under the state department and NVC but only got one reply**

Hello everyone,

I received a call from 603.334.9400 this afternoon and they asked if I had a spousal visa petition and I said, "No, I have a fiance visa petition." He then proceeded to ask about my fiances name / DOB and which service center our case was at. I asked him if our case was approved at the SC and its at the NVC. He said, that is what he is trying to figure out but thinks there maybe a mistake with the spelling in the name. I proceeded to provide my fiances info to him along with my e-mail address at his request.

I later on thought (WTH....this doesn't happen and I didn't get his name and he said if I had further questions I can call the 1-800 #). When I asked what he was trying to do, he said "we are working a different part of the case."

I came home and called the NVC and they dont have my case and they fwd me to a supervisor and she was very nice and looked through each system and was not able to find anything. WHATTTTTT????

I am soo confused. Has this happened to anyone before????

P.S. Our case is straight forward, neither of us ever married before, I've never petitioned for anyone else before.

Wow.

I can't even begin to think why they would call you when they don't even have your case. And especially since there aren't any records of the call.

I haven't heard of this happening before, so I'm interested to see if anyone else knows anything about it.

:wow:

It kind of sounds like a scam to me...

Do you know if that is a valid phone number for the NVC?

Sorry, I don't mean to alarm you. Although I didnt find the full number you posted when I googled it, I did find numbers at the NVC starting with 603.334.

It's just sound very odd that they would call you when they dont have your file and don't seem to know anything...

EXACTLY my point. At first I was sooo excited---thinking, "Wow, my case got approved at the CSC and they forwarded it to the NVC without updating my status on the site." After I calmed down and thought it through, I started to think "i've never read about this on visajourney or have heard of it." That is why I called their number.

Yes, when you call that number it says it is none working number for the state department of health visa and immigration services. I'd like to know if anyone has had a smiliar situation?

Holy cow. I am SO sorry this is happening to you right now. I've never heard of anything like it, and I'm not sure what would be a good course of action at this point.

You might get a very excellent guys from Gary or Pushbrk if you post this in the main K-1 process and procedures forum, though. I think this is strange enough to warrant posting again.

By the way, if you don't get any answers soon, it might be OK to call your senator and ask him/her to have someone look into it.

I doubt this was a call from NVC. It DEFINITELY DOES NOT sound like something the gov't would do!

Generally, if you EVER get a call from ANY *claimed to be official* source, ask them for thier name, department, etc and tell them you must verify the contact information, ask for thier direct extension and you'll call back. Then look up the dept phone number (do not call any number they may give you!) from an *official* web site, 411 or the telephone book, and call, going thru whatever channels to get back to whomever.

Don't EVER give personal info of ANY kind to ANYONE that cold-calls you!!

This goes for gov't, banks, etc, etc.

If you call the official dept number and can find no verification that the person or department or whatever actually exists, IMMEDIATELY call your state police and report the call!!

There are WAY too many scams going on out there these days!!

Thank you for the links everyone! I found these two very helpful. I am gonna think positively and assume--they are doing background checks on my fiance at the CSC stage and possibly forwarded it to the state department?? And, the guy just wanted the correct spelling of his name. He asked for my e-mail address and said, "would it be okay if we communicated via e-mail if I have further questions?"

Pray for us guys---it's been 9 long months without my fiance!!! : (
