Okay, here are three questions i couldn't seem to find an answer for.

Can i stay in America whilst we are waiting for the fiance Visa?

What happens if we file it all at the consulate, instead of by mail? Is this faster?

What happens if we just get married on a visit, without a Fiance Visa?

You can visit, but the longer you want to visit or numerous visits will raise red flags and you'll get asked to prove ties to the UK before they let you to visit. Work, mortgage, car insurance - anything to prove you have to go back to something in the UK. As for staying for the ENTIRE time it takes to do the K1, nope. The US has a VWP limit of 90 days and it's going to take more than 90 days to get through this process.

To file at the consulate it would have to be after you married in the UK. You can do DCF filing in London but your wife would actually have to live in the UK with you first. You can marry in the UK and then file for a k3 but again you can't live over here for as long as it takes.

You have already expressed an intent to marry her. If you come in as 'just a visitor' then marry after being here a week or something this will raise flags as to what your intentions were when you came in. It is not a recommended path.

I think what you're looking for is what we ALL looked for in the beginning - the magic 'FAST' button. The problem is that that button is also mythical...the best you can do is start gathering stuff, READ READ READ everything you can to educate yourself and get the ball rolling.

All the luck in the world to you!

And so he did what countless punk-rock songs had told him to do so many times before: he lived his life

10/07/2006 WEDDING DAY!

11/14/2006 AOS packet made it to 'the box' after being overnighted.

12/02/2006 Paul had biometrics

12/14/2006 AOS Forwarded to CSC AND AP Application approved.

01/17/2007 First touch of 2007 at CSC

01/20/2007 Touched AGAIN (also the 18th) come on...

February: Oops, RFE for a REGISTERED marriage certificate. Oops! Overnighted it.

02/28/2007 Paul gets email letting us know his GREENCARD is on it's way! It's done...for now!

03/09/2007 Paul's greencard arrives. And breathe...

We began with mailing the I-129 in on February 27, 2006 so the whole process took us approx. one year.

Good luck out there!
