If this poll was on VJ, would our results be more or less compassionate?

I found this poll on the forums at hannity.com -

Should the U.S. (government) be giving financial aid to Haiti right now?

At this moment, the "NO" is in the lead - 31-30.

If this poll existed on VJ, would we come off just as heartless?

I think we would.

I guess you will be changing your travel plans. right? Mr.Compassion. Compassion thru words only, as always!

We should donate to relief charities directly. If the money passed from our government to Haiti's government how much would be lost to bureaucracy?

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Senator Barack Obama
Senate Floor Speech on Public Debt

It makes sense for the U.S. government to give money at this point as there's an immediate threat. Disaster relief is ok for the short term because Haiti is a basketcase even in good times.

In the long run, Haiti will slip back into its usual state of chaos out of the public eye until the next natural disaster or military coup d'etat. Haitians themselves are the key to long term development but after more than 200 years of independence, I don't see it happening.

Yes, unfortunately like when 9/11 happend and the whole debacle with the red cross. That's why if I had the money to donate to a cause I would heavily research to whom I was sending the money and how it would be used.

So you see this tragedy and all the suffering as an opportunity to install a government that is more cooperative with the U.S.? I really hope that i'm reading too much into this.

That's already happened under Clinton and others further back in Haiti's history. You reading too much of anything would be refreshing change. I guess there is bright spot with the earthquake that you've now heard of Haiti but now's the time to brush up on her history.

Not the American people?

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

I see once again, you're showing your ignorance. Clinton didn't use the guise of humanitarian aid to subvert the government and install a more friendly one. Go read up before you try your partisan innuendo.
