hello everyone,

does anyone know if the validity of the visa depends on the expiration of the medical?

my medical will soon get expire but i would hope that I could get the interview before the expiration. i did the advance medical almost 6 months ago coz we didnt expect that we will got hold on USCIS and i was expecting to undergo Sputum test..and I really did that's why it was a 6 mos expiration., but anyway our papers are on the way here in manila already, but my big worry is..what if I get the interview and pass 2 days before my medical expires..will I need to get a flight before the expiration of my medical?

pls need infos..

God Bless to all!!

You will not need to fly to the us before the expiration of your medical, only before the expiration of your visa after it is granted. As for the USCIS you will need to apply for Adjustment of Status before the one year expiration date of your medical or you will be required to get another medical.

You may be required by the US Embassy to undergo another medical before they issue a visa.

hmmmm... I thought medicals were valid for up to one year

That's what I believe too...

Also, I thought visas are valid for 6 months, however ..... when I got mine, it only has a validity of 3 months, will expire exactly 6months after the date I took my medical  I'm assuming it's just a coincidence, but .. I may be wrong :hehe:

The medical for the purpose of the visa interview is valid for 6 months only. If your visa interview is scheduled beyond 6 months from the date you had a medical, you'll need to have another medical.

More info here: http://manila.usembassy.gov/wwwh3218.html

Once your visa is approved, the overseas medical is valid for one year but the visa is valid for 6 months from date of issue. You need to come to the U.S. before your VISA expires (not the medical).

If you file for Adjustment of Status over 1 year from the date of your overseas medical, you'll need to have another medical here in the U.S.

another reason then not to get too far ahead of oneself in this process

I actually waited until the last minute to get the medical done - not a good idea either. LOL. Once we got the approval for our I-129F petition and got the letter from the embassy, my fiance (now husband) wanted me to have the interview as soon as possible so he scheduled it just 2 weeks after I planned to have the medical done (I waited until a month after receiving the embassy letter ^__^;; ). The risk in this is that the hospital may not have sent your medical results and passport to the embassy yet when you go to your interview. Getting the medical done a month before your scheduled interview is probably the safest allowance.

Actually you don't need to worry....my wife went through the same thing a SLEC in Manila and was delayed 6 months for the Sputum testing and treatment. SLEC will send your paperwork over to the Emabassy upon completion of your treatment. You don't need to worry that your original medical exam started 6 months ago. It will be based on the date you completed all treatment at SLEC. If you have any questions let me knnow.

I believe that the validity of the visa depends on the date of your medical...and it is only good for 6 months. I had my medical in June 10 which was a week before my interview. They gave me a visa valid until December 10. I have a friend here in vj who had same interview date with me and her visa is valid until August because she had her medical as early as February. So I figure out it all depends on when did you get your medical. I am not 100% sure that's how it works though.

My finacee just finished her Sputum test and received the reults today(NEGATIVE) Now we wait until March 15th for result of culture. The attendant told her today that if she is cleared of medicals and pass's her interview she will have to depart for the U.S by June 1st or everthing starts over for this process.

1st off she started her medicals on Jan 5th and finished on Jan 6th, Then returned on Jan 12th,13th,14th and completed the Sputum test. If this is true about the 6 months starting from the from when the medical was done why did the attendant tell her she had to depart by June 1st when she actually started her medicals on Jan 5th.

I thought the visa was valid for 6 months from the time it was issued. I am very confused about this and hope someone can shed some light on this topic!!!!

actually that was made me confused too. In my case, I did the medical last Aug 20 and did the sputum for 3 days too and got cleared on the cultured test on Oct. 25th and they put my expiration on 23rd Jan..that counts as 5 mos only where I thought that the expiry would be 6 mos., so I called up the SLEC and they told me that they count 3 mos after the clearing of cultured result.,and that would be the expiry. Its like so unfair cos I actually ask they before I did the medical if how many mos is the validity and they told me that if no sputum test..it would be 3 mo., with sputum, 6 mos., so we figured that it was long enough to to wait for the papers.,but unfortunately it was not.

Goodluck to yours hope that you won't rich expiry before you get the visa.
