My only question is how are you going to bring a child into the world to feed and take care of if neither of you are working and are trying to get yourselves on food stamps and wic?

sorry but I do not think that you will care for my child more than me and I will start working in the coming July and my wife is pregnant so she will not work..

by the way you are ssssssssssssssssssssssoooooooooooo nice and thanks for your support :bonk:

I really wish the best for your child and your family. However, since you joined VJ back in Aug you have asked over and over again how to get government assistance. For some, it is a sore spot bcz theres people who work really hard to take care of a foreign spouse without government assistance when theres been times they really needed it and theres some people taking advantage of it. If neither applies to you, then dont worry about it.

My main concern is for people that have children and have no way to provide for them themselves.

But not every person who uses WIC or FS is like those you mention here. And it's really unfair to the OP to continue with these comments when he came here to ask a valid and sincere question.

I am not ashamed to say that when my ex took off and decided to leave me to financially support and care for two infants by myself, I accepted WIC. They help you with baby formula & also whole milk and certain other foods.

I agree that it is very helpful to many people. I just dont like to see when its misused. Im glad it was there for you and your kids when ya'll needed it.

also, I noticed the WIC office added awhole lot more items to the list which has been a great help.

Those programs are there for people in need, you picked a man who bailed on you and your child and never looked back, if I were you, I would be ashamed of my lack of judgment more than anything.

I hope things are working out for you now.

Yes I am the one with a lack of good judgement  . Not the man who decided to leave his family. Riiiight. Gotcha.

That's a little harsh Danno, people do change you know.

I have always been deathly afraid to have kids (for many reasons, haha) but also mostly the reason as what happened to Susita, as this was always a big fear of mine, I always made damn sure that I was financially independent from whoever I was dating and even now being married, I think it's every woman's worse nightmare, even when you have 100% trust that someone won't bail on you they might... it's the "might" you have to plan around no matter how insulting it might be for your partner, you have to look out for yourself and your kids by being prepared...

I have seen people using food stamps to buy incredibly unhealthy things too, but the truth is, while we are working we are paying in to these programs. If we qualify while working, or when we are out of work, they are there as a resource.

Thats not exactly true.

For many many people they pay into Social Security and unemployment when they work and then at the end of the years they file their taxes and get everything else back,,,, and then some.

With the -Earned income tax credit, which most mid to low income earners get they actually get more money back at the end of the years than they ever paid in.

You actually contribute to Social security and Unemployment, unless you "pay money to the IRS" every April 15, food stamps (and everything else) is a free-bee when you get it.

- I hope people who are needy and without any other recourse will go get food stamps, I just bristle at this delusion that other people are not supporting your family.

- I also bristle at this falsehood that people on food stamps.... just don't have enough to eat. BS they spend more on food than I and many others do. Family of 3 $526.

About eleven years ago, the State of Wisconsin finally started going after those men, caught some, but ran into problems with some moms that didn't know which one.

Certainly no mystery when the bible states that the sins of the parents will be carried even into the second or third generation of their children.

I feel it's justifiable for the state to even loan money to people in need, but many are taking advantage and getting a free ride without future obligations. Somehow, I do not feel that is right, feel like I am paying for other peoples fun. If I have to pay, should also enjoy in the fun of bringing those kids into the world.

Is this a selfish view? If so, ban me from this board.

Actually, this is a totally valid question - remove the USCIS aspect from it and just the moral question begs an answer. To bring another life into this world when you are not able to support it at least with some type of income is seriously irresponsible. When my husband and I were both unemployed, I was asked by my cousins - "When are you guys going to start a family." I said when we're financially ready to. They were like, "you'll never be truly ready." I mentioned that we'd at least like to both be employed. They said that was a very good point.

Our son was a surprise (we were employed when we got pregnant) and believe me, I tried to receive WIC after he was born, but I made just a few dollars more than I could to receive WIC - which would have helped us tremendously as formula and food are very costly. My biggest concern when I found out I was pregnant, became health care as I knew a pregnancy could just bury us financially. If we hadn't had health insurance from my job we would have had to declare bankruptcy as our time in the hospital/NICU was $42K.

On a side note, one thing that food stamps does NOT cover are diapers - now those are super expensive. Start saving now.

But of the hundreds of millions of men in this country..... "you chose him" to make kids with.

Look it happens but don't blame a snake bites you.

You raise a good point, it seems we have two different types of people, those who want to wait until they can provide EVERYTHING before having kids and those who aren't prepared to provide ANYTHING.

It's a good thing life brings surprises ..or some of us might never feel ready.
