Her job was scheduled to end the first of the year, but they asked her to stay on for a few months longer.. she told them today that she had to stop work to spend time with family before the interview. A red flag being created by doing this? It really made sense to us both, but with the interview so close I am overthinking everything...

It's unlikely they'll ask about it. Also, I don't think they would consider it to be a red flag, since it's something she would have to do eventually anyway. Phuong sort of did the same thing. She took a 1 month leave of absence, with the understanding that she might not return to work at the end of the month.

Scott,

Doan was originally scheduled to work until the end of December, but when we got the interview letter and appointment for the 15th there was no way. They allowed her to end the 4th so she could go to HCMC for medical and back and forth. We had no troubles with her stopping work before the visa was approved. They did ask her where she worked but that was it. Her managers were very accomodating through this whole thing (probably didnt hurt that we all became good friends too).

Hang in there - I know exactly how your feeling right about now so I wont tell you to chill out since I wouldnt and didnt haha! Just dont chew your fingernails off - its really painful!!

Perhaps comparing Thailand and Vietnam is like mangoes and cabbages but my wife also quit prior to the interview since she had to give 1 month notice and she wanted to leave about two weeks from the interview. In the end it worked out fine and if there had been a short delay, she would have had time with the family. If the delay were longer, well we were willing to risk it.

My wife pretty much had to give up her two businesses she ran next to the market and turn them over to another family member so they could keep the income flowing in and they could be trained by her to run whatever they were going to sell. At the interview they never even asked about her employment at all. I even had changed companies and taken some time off myself. The Consulate knows that the SO is pretty much spinning their wheels and waiting to come be with us so it is a non issue.

I am working with her when it comes to understanding exactly what they are asking and requesting clarification if there is ANY confusion... I don't think "to marry" is a smart azz answer.... IMO it is the "only reason" for the issuance of the visa and if she responded anything else it could be considered grounds for denial....

I think the difference is "What will you be doing in the USA?" vs. "Why do you want to go to the USA"? My fiance asked for clarification on the first question (the second wasn't asked), and they wanted to know what she will be doing for work in the USA. Or be safe and answer both questions in the response if the question is asked? She also asked for clarification on the "When did you two first meet" question. Because the word "meet" can mean different things to different people, like meet online, on phone, or in person. They clarified the question to be when did you two first meet face to face. Luckily, they didn't ask "When was the proposal" instead just asked "When was the Dam Hoi" because the whole proposal, meet parents, plan Dam Hoi, and Dam Hoi celebration is like one event over multiple dates.
