Best option for sponsoring my cousin

I need some suggestions from fellow VJ members:

I am thinking about sponsoring my cousin to come to the U.S. so that he can get better education etc etc. The cousin is my dad's nephew.

I suppose my options are as follows:

  1. My dad can sponsor his brother and his family will possibly be able to come with him as well. (the problem with this option is that they cannot afford 5 air tickets, if it's just one person than we can pay for the air fare but not all 5. Can my dad apply/petition for his brother's family and if its approved, can my dad's brother's son only come and not the entire family? is that possible?)
  2. The cousin can apply for student visa (this option means that tuition fees will be ginormous)

I hope I made the situation clear.

What other options are there?

My dad and myself are U.S. citizens.

You didn't mention your cousin's age or country.

USC cannot petition for a nephew/niece.

Dad can petition for his brother. It will likely take several years for a visa to become available for your uncle and his family.

Cousin can apply for student visa - likely to be more timely.

hmmmm this 1st scenario uve given abt ur dad sponsoring...well it really depends how old is ur cuzin? if hes crossed 21, then u wont b able to sponser him,

and also the whole process of sponsering ur dad's bro, dat takes a lotta time, from what ive heard a few yrs....

the best bet wud b doin the student visa , and joinin a program in states.

Thanks for the replies so far.

The cousin is less then 21.

If my dad applies for his brother and if the petition is approved, can only one person from that petition immigrate to the U.S. or does the entire family need to come over (since it was all applied under one case)?

Your uncle's kids would get derivative status. If your uncle doesn't come and get the GC, then his kids would not be eligible.

well from what ive heard, the whole family will b able to immigrate , as long as the kids r under 21. but like i said, it might take a couple of yrs...

so i guess student visa is the best option ;)

the problem is that petitions for siblings take more than 10 years, so he will be over 21 at the time of the interview.

a student visa is the best way.

no

a citizen can only petition for direct family members, such as parents, siblings or children

no grandparents, cousins or aunts and uncles

The path would be for the cousin to sponsor their parent , then when that parent becomes a USC they would sponsor their sibling and then that parent has a green card and you are unmarried they could sponsor you.  Total wait for you is something a bit over 3o years,

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.
