For those with a sweet tooth, there will be complimentary sweet samples and tasty treats.

Local chefs will perform demonstrations of confections and various sweet treats with of course free samples for all who participate while local vendors will have their sweet treasures available for sampling or to take home to a loved one. Chef David Solow of Hard Rock Philadelphia will demonstrate two “mini” desserts now available on their menu. For those parents struggling with spelling. You really have to be patient and work on sounds... when you are saying the words to them ennunciate clearly as you can so they get it. Spelling is nothing but repetition. As long as you do that, you should be okay. When they are not doing spelling and your out and about make it a game show them a word and ask them to spell it. Challenge them as much as you can...

EXACTLY.. thats the problem.. when she says the word everyday and writes the word everyday

she gets 100

when you LOOK at the paper everyday.. you will get a 80.. point blank..

you cannot expect to make the grade w/out doing the work and she does NOT want to do the work when she is used to making a 100 without it..she doesn't understand the words are getting more difficult and it requires a different approach..

but this past six weeks was her wake up call when she saw that big 85 on her report card..

she is not giving me so much drama when i remind her to write her words

Well that is self-motivation and progress, be thankful for that cause some children just don't get it... Now thats shes got it, she just needs to be encouraged to keep on getting it. I think that you should make a big deal everytime she gets a passing grade like "See, I told you you can do it, your doing so good!!! Imagine what you will get when you study a little more..."

I tried THE dress on last night and it fits woooohoooo I am so happy! Hard work does pay off now just have to stay on track for the remaining 12 days

Haaaaaa Damian was telling Roman his best friend a Yard that we were in the Subway and 2 guys were kissing right in front of him  He was very still and slowly backed up. He never made a negative comment he is getting better not used it but knowing that its a part of life here and its the way it is. I am so proud of him :star:

YAY PHILLY! YOU DID IT! We knew you could! Yes, just be on good behavior for the next 12 days & then you can enjoy the big day.

This is a strange new batty world for JA men! LOL! Lehi is also having to learn 'tolerance'.

Now adding his name to the list is Sizzla Kalonji. Sizzla was arrested on Wednesday by Jamaica's St Andrew parish Central police following reports that gunshots were fired at a group of people at a river in August Town.

These reggae stars...I tell ya. I still enjoy their music but I never realized to what extent so many of these guys are complete hypocrites. They sing one thing & live another. Guess you just have to recognize that & understand that what they sing is what we should strive for vs. what actually happens & just enjoy it for what it is...nice music.

Funny you should say that. My daughter has BOYS on the brain.. but I just keep reminding her that Rashida will become her new mother! and I hold her phone over her head. Like yesterday she had to get her math homework off the school website except she can't remember her log in and password. I told her do you honestly think your teacher is going to want to hear that excuse. You are in high school now, no more hand holding for you. It's time to step up to the plate and be responsible. She got a detention for not having a book covered. My child is lazy. She is also good though. They wanted to put her in advance math (she don't get that from me) but she would have been the only 9th grader with 10th graders and she didn't want that. They want to put her in advance Spanish because she is really good at it but won't speak it if she doesn't have to. She said no to that also....

Whereas my son doesn't study for anything! He is very book smart. He just doesn't make good choices. Why did he tell me that the teacher gives them two hours to study voc. words and definitions for them...He gets so upset because he is done so quickly so he helps the other kids. He has done so much extra credit, they have no more for him to do. He is at a technical school to become a medical assistant.. When he graduates he will have 45 college credits. He has decided to become a doctor. Funny thing is, I can see him doing it. He has a way with people, very charming (a bs artist on the low, lol) People are always impressed. He looks gangsta but acts super professional using big words and all lol.

I hope your daughter stays smart about dumb boys. There is PLENTY of time for that. What's important now is the education & getting her life started in a good way...without any of that other mess that will take away her childhood.

Reading these challenges with the kids & studying makes me realize I'm not alone (as far as helping Lehi goes) but it also seriously makes me question if I'm cut out for the job of parent. I can't do it....it's too hard! :crying:

Props to all the parents out there who do DO it!

Thanks Ells, I have already but the bug in my daughter's ear to take her step-father shopping! I can lend you my daughter Ells to give Lehi ideas :)

Good advice with the spelling help! I try to do some of that with hubby too.

Yes, please! Lehi has gotten complacent....he needs help. Two V-days in a row I've bought him a card & tried to make the day special. I didn't expect a card or anything but after two of them, he should kinda get it that it's supposed to be a special day. I don't foresee any extra effort on his part to do anything special.

My daughter was accepted into Temple University :dance: Her top pick school. I'm so happy and proud of her  .

Congrats to your daughter Shemmy! Good for her! But I also can't believe you have a daughter old enough to go to university. :wow:

alright shemster.. where is that school now?? will she be free? lol

Free? I wish. We are waiting for 3 in-state schools responses. Temple is in Philly. It was her top pick because of their Japanese and Education programs. She'll get lots of scholarships I'm sure.

MrsTee, please encourage your daughter to take the advanced classes if she can. They will help her SO MUCH in college.

Nat this has been an uphill battle with her...I don't even think she wants to go to college. Her high school, however, is designed that way. We just happen to live in one of the best school districts in PA. They have this thing called Emerald Academy and its strictly college prep courses. She was disaapointed because she couldn't get in because of her middle school grades, but at the same time, the boy thing is blocking her brain  I was telling Ells Steve keeps telling her boys are dumb lol...

I explained to her while her brother excels, her and I both struggle and Im in college. I try very hard to lead by example. When Im studying I encourage her to study with me. I have her testing me. When I need to go to the library, I bring her with me. The scary part is she is aware of her looks and I don't know if she thinks her beauty is going to be her ticket to success...

Im still pushing and will continue to push... Just like her brother, she needs to be prodded but once she is there, she will excel. I know it! Thanks for the advice

Our Advance Parole petition was touched today! Strangely, I dreamed that one of our cases was touched last night, and was disappointed when I checked this morning. But by lunchtime, it was touched. I hope it gets approved soon, as Steven is eagerly awaiting visiting his family/friends.

I finally got a chance to mail off the AOS package today. We couldn't get Ivan's medical exam until Saturday so that delayed things slightly. I sure hope we can make the wedding to JA in April, but its not looking good...

Congrats Char on the next step!

I am now up to 160 "Reply all" emails to the spam one this morning

GEEZ LOUISE people! You'd think after all this time, most computer users would be more savvy than that....apparently not!

Congrats Nat! Weird how you dreamt it first!

I know your girls will be great.. They have a good support system at home and thats where it begins..... Don't be too hard on them with Roger. I think spending time with just him will help alot. I usually leave Steve and Kay on their own. I go in my room and fall back. Then when I go get something to drink or the bathroom, they are either laughin it up, playin dominoes/cards or serious convo cause they both look at me like  and then keep talking lol so I know progress is always being made. As much as I fuss about things on here that is the one thing Im blessed about. How well they have accepted Steve and that is half the battle!!!

Batty bwoys! They can't handle it lmao

Yes, Ells, you would make a great mother and you two would be great parents because you balance one another. Another thing to keep in mind: You are doing good with Lehi and school. Keep it that way because I guarantee, when you do have kids and they become school-aged, Lehi will remember why you pushed him so hard... the teachers aren't the only "teachers" you and Lehi will become their teachers too!

Don't get me started on education because I live, breathe and sleep it! You should hear me talking to my daughter and son's friends.. When they come to my house, I say "You're going to college right?" I get deep about what they want to be, how they can go about it. I even donate through the United Way to "Philadelphia Futures". Its a program designed to help the less fortunate attend college on scholarships.... Mama dont play!

Shame on Lehi for V-day, he better get it together! lol
