Living abroad then migrating back to U.S?

Hello,

I am a U.S citizen, my will-be husband was born in India. We are making arrangements to file the cr-1 and bring him to the states. That said, what are our options if I chose to live in India for a few years after we married instead of bringing him here right away? I'm not sure what forms we would file for in that case or what that is called- Would we be blowing it for ourselves to spend a few years married abroad if we wanted to get back into the states someday?

Thanks!

actually, it may help your case. it will not hinder it for sure. you will be able to do direct consular filing (DCF). read the guides at the top to get a more general idea if you have questions regarding that. the main thing you will have to do before the interview is to prove domicile. in other words that you have set up, or have the means to set up a home for your husband in the usa. if you do not have enough financial resources, you will also need to have a co-sponsor. there are other criteria, of course, but this will give you a general idea. good luck :star:

Thankyou for the help, I apprciate that! Well, as it stands we already would need a co-sponsor. He is more financially established than I am. So as I understand it I would need to have residence set up in the U.S for the time I am gone after we are married (say 2-3 years)? Well, thankyou for your help. I will go check the guides, I at least now know what it is called! (Direct consular filing)
