Hey Vjs!

I hve just got engaged to an american citizen. We will start the process end of January.

Question is..how is the process if I chose to get married in the USA with a tourist visa ? I am not planning to stay there but applying for a K3 ..how long can I stay in the US waiting for the consulate in Rio for the interview?

What are the benefits of chosing the K3 x K1? Chances of getting visa are bigger since I am already married tro a US citizen?

Thanks for yr help

K1 is for fiancees, so it would not apply to a married couple. K3 and CR1 are the spouse visas.

The CR1 is generally thought of as the better visa. The CR1 costs less in fees and the immigrant spouse has a green card upon entering the US. With the K3 the immigrant must adjust status to obtain the green card. Do some reading in the VJ Guides to learn about your choices.

If you get married, dont bother with K3, go for the CR1, you can work, get green card, drivers licence immediatly when your SO enters and it takes about the same amount of time as the K3...

As stated, CR1 is better than K3 so don't even bother with that. Here are the comparisons: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...mp;page=compare which should help you decide. Then if you go to the guides you can read through the processes to get an idea of what you're in for.

As for whether it's easier if you're married as opposed to engaged, no it's not. There are no guarantee's either way. You need to prove it is a bonafide relationship in both cases.

The process of getting married in the US will depend on what the state requirements are so you will need to look into that. Your tourist visa will depend how long you can stay. Some say 6 months, some say 3, sometimes depending on how trustworthy they think you are I have seen only a month allowed at POE. You will also be questioned at the POE and will need to prove strong ties to your home country or they might not allow you entry. Having a visa is no guarantee of entry into the states.
