I wanted to resurrect this thread to get some feedback on circumcision. If it were up to me, I wouldn't even have it done but of course my husband would not allow him to remain uncircumcized.

Ayman didn't get to be circumcized because of not being stable enough after his birth and being transferred to a childrens hospital right away. The childrens hospital wouldn't do it at the time of his discharge because he wasn't born there.

I took him to his pediatrician last week and she said that she won't do it because he has already passed the age where it can be done in the office and that she will give him a referral to a urologist when he is one year old.

My question is if anyone has waited this long to get their son circumcized and isn't it more painful for him to wait until one year old?

You have until two weeks after their birth to get the circumcision done. I tried while at the hospital and the ob/gyn on call would not do it. So, I had to run to get my two insurance coverage 2 days after getting home from the hospital so Zak could be circumsized when he was one week old. They told me after two weeks, it requires anesthesia and a urologist has to perform it (I did not hear that you had to wait until one). After our experience, I would want to get it done ASAP because it was horrible to look at and I could not imagine a child dealing with that when they are more self-aware. My husband still remembers his when he was around 5 or 6 and had no problem with Zak getting his when he was days old.

Try to find a second opinion and get it done as soon as possible.. like the last poster, my fiance had his done when he was about 5 and he still remembers it, it was quite traumatic for him.. I have an ex boyfriend who still has the teddy bear he held on to when he had his done, he says it's something he will never forget, so I'd say the younger and less aware they are, the better..

I've never heard of such a thing...waiting till he's one year old and YES oh so painful. Thank god Zain's was done 1 day after birth and in the hospital before we headed home.

Call a uroligist on your own and find out the deal. I understand not doing it in the office however, waiting till 1 makes no sense. Just call some doctors offices and find out the scoop...just my two cents. (F)

Thanks guys. This is what I was feeling also. I'm glad that I'm not alone in my thinking.

He had his one month well today and has to be seen tomorrow again to follow up with his cardiology appointment that he had today also. I will be seeing another (male) pediatrician in the practice so I'm hoping that he might give me a referral to go ahead and have it done now. It makes me cringe at the thought of waiting.

That reminds me of Desperate Housewives when Bree got her grandson circumcised by having a secret bris, lol.

Wadi wanted to wait because he thought Adam was too little when he was born. I said that since he called the shots on having the circumcision in the first place, I at least got to decide when it was done!

I would not, could not wait. The babys are in such a baby daze the first 24-72 hours after birth and Im sure thats the reason they do it then. Believe it or not but Zaid didnt even cry when they did it. Ayman will have discomfort from it, but thats better than having memories of it. It heals in a few short days. I would get a 2nd opinion.

Mehdi had it done @ 2 days old and three days later, the little ring had already popped off and it was healed.

The pediatrician mentioned to me that I wouldn't be able to find a urologist to do one because of his history of pulmonary hypertension. I didn't understand what she was talking about because I didn't think that they would put him under at this young of an age to do the circumcision. I just assumed that they would numb it locally and do it just like they do in the hospital. I guess she's referring to possible problems with anesthesia? I don't get it because today at the cardiologist they told me that the pulmonary hypertension had completely resolved so I don't know what possible complications can arise. I am going to get a second opinion because I don't want him to be one year old when he gets it done. That makes me cringe!

Can you call a Moy'el??? You know like the Jewish men who are trained to do this? Maybe go outside of the medical field. unsure.gif

I thought that they did their circumcisions on the 8th day of life or something. I don't know but it would merit looking into if I can't find a urologist to perform it. Thanks for the idea!

They do. But I don't think a moy'el would mind doing it on a baby who doesn't have a "due by" date. ;)

I guess everyone is busy with theor little ones, I had to really look good for this thread...page 7!! Anyways, I am curious about potty training, I hope some of you have experience with this....

Malak is completely trained (except I don't trust her at night and put her in a pull up), anyway, my husband wants me to train her to clean herself with the bidet...however, I need to learn to use it first (well, first we need to install one). Is there any pointers anyone can give me to help her learn to do this, you can PM me if you would rather (it may be a few days before I respond though). But I want her to know how to do this to make hubby happy.

Hope all your little ones are doing well...they are all growing like weeds and soooooo adorable, every single one of them!!! I can't believe my littlest one will be a year old in less than 2 months! Time flies for real! B-)

Thanks ladies!

I guess it would depend on which kind you ended up buying. The built-in bidets like they have in MENA countries can be a little tricky because for little kids, they may not be able to reach the handle to turn the water on. The one I ended up buying here in the US is attached to the water source under the toilet, and has a handle (hand-held bidet) which was a LOT easier for my daughter to use. We just make sure to have small individual towels by the toilet to dry off with, and we made a big deal about how she had HER OWN towel that was just for her, and that she is supposed to use it after she cleans herself, stuff like that. Not sure how old your daughter is, but she'll probably just need some assistance for the first few days/weeks, until she gets the hang of it.
