The fourth estate is supposed to fill a role of oversight over government - clearly its pretty far from that ideal by any measure, but nothing is served by giving public media platforms to people who don't know what they're talking about.

This is a nation unlike any other. It is to be expected that we will behave like any other.

We take the people who would be the laughingstocks in other countries and elevate them. We give them a voice, a platform to speak. It doesn't always end out well, but it's the American way.

It is what's exceptional about America.

Speaking purely for myself - its amazing to me how someone like her continues to be idolized (for no real reason that I can see whatsoever) and that her being made a Fox News Contributor does anything to inform the viewing public about anything.

Hell in that case - lets make Joe the Plumber a contributor. What about Kanye West? Perez Hilton? Paris Hilton?

My serious response [my first was a joke, no idea how much she will make on FOX] is that yes, some people like this woman. It is absolutely beyond me on every level why this could possibly be so. If folks will watch Glen Beck, I suppose they will tune in for Sarah as well. Again, no idea why this might be so, completely beyond my ability to understand why anyone would waste their time listening to this her, but whatever floats your boat I guess.

All things considered, I am glad she is going to be on FOX instead of in the White House. It appears to be the most appropriate place for her if she must remain in the public eye.
