Hello,

I recently filed an I-130 for my wife who lives in Ontario, Canada. I am a little uncertain if I can travel out to see her while the case is still in it's initial review. I should think that I would be able to and my wife thinks the same, though I am just worried it might mess the application process up. I would really like to go and be with her this Valentine's Day. I was just wondering if anyone knew if it was acceptable for the petitioner to travel internationally while a case is pending, or if perhaps there was some document that would need to be approved first? Thank you for your time in reading this.

I love your question, and it's easy to answer: it's not Friday the 13th, and you have not seen any black cats on the day of your travel, your right as a US citizen to travel freely will not be infringed upon based on the fact that your wife is a Canadian who lives in Canada.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

For some strange reason, the Canadian border agency doesn't assume US Citizens married to Canadians have immigrant intent, so no problem.
