28 Days Later: Say Goodbye to the Netflix New Release Rental

If you didn't see it in the theater - you probably can wait another month to rent it - not so much to ask for...

They want to grab the people who can't wait and have to spend their bucks RIGHT NOW :)

There are plenty of people who don't watch anything but new or recent releases. Also due to widespread pirating, there's a very short window when a movie can rake in the big bucks.

I've got a huge Netflix queue so I've never waited for movies except the hard to find ones they ship from other warehouses.

I found out awhile ago that Universal and FOX are going to delay releasing DVDs to Netflix too

but in return FOX is going to make some TV shows available on Netflix instant view...

You might wonder why in the world Netflix would make such a deal. On the potential plus side, depending on how you actually use Netflix, you’ll gain access to a bunch of TV shows via streaming video. These shows are free to you as a subscriber. Stay tuned for previous seasons of “24″ and “Lie to Me.” You can also catch “Arrested Development” and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” in their entirety. The Universal side of the deal brings us movies like ”Gosford Park,” “Being John Malkovich” and “Do the Right Thing.”

It's the same deal with Redbox. These studios assume we will go out and buy the DVD or pay concast the $6.95 fee instead. FAIL.... I will simply wait the additional 28 days for it to come out.

I can't say as this changes anything for me. I never know when a movie is going to be released for rental anyways. If it's available, it's available. If it's not, it's not.

Besides, I'd rather rent from Amazon/Blockbuster on my Tivo account than pay Netflix money every month even if I don't rent anything. With Amazon/Blockbuster, you don't pay unless you rent something. My movie viewing is sporadic. Might rent 3 movies in a month. Might go 3 months without renting anything.

Meh, I agree. What's the big deal? If it's something that didn't excite me enough to spend my $6.50 in the theaters, I can hold my breath for another 28 days.

Besides, it's not like I'm upto date with movie release dates.

I heart Netflix for old school television shows and Bollywood flicks! :star:

I don't buy movies unless it is an absolute favourite...

otherwise I usually only watch movies once so buying them even for 5 bucks feels like a waste of money to me

I don't really care about this 28 days later thing as we usually only get TV shows from Netflix..

lame.

I've had Netflix for 5 years and never have had one problem, but this is damn lame.

The studios are responsible for this, not netflix. It's the same deal with redbox who at one stage, had people going to stores and physically buying the retail copies on release day; that is, because WB refused to sell them the DVD to rent.

Are there really people who need to see a movie SO BAD that they have to go out and buy it the day it comes out, rather than waiting 28 days to rent it?

What will happen to them if they have to wait? Does their head asplode?

It's kind of a lame thing to do, but it's even more lame that it actually gets people to buy something they otherwise might not have.
