I posted here in October about having issues with getting a CO state license. According to the DMV my information was still in my maiden name and they could not verify my documents since they were all in my married name, despite having a marriage license to explain the discrepancy. They made me go through S.A.V.E to have my immigration information manually verified. Ever since then I have been waiting for a response, a total of 10 weeks.

Today I got a letter from the State of Colorado S.A.V.E office. It says this

"Your case has not verified through USCIS/DHS and you are not eligible to obtain a Colorado Driver's License, Permit or Identification card at this time. For further assistance contact USCIS/DHS at the following website: www.uscis.gov

You will need to have your name corrected with USCIS/DHS."

How frustrating! I waited 10 weeks for this?! After the IO at my interview said he would have my name changed in the system. What is the issue here? How can I get this changed? Would an infopass appointment help? I'm so frustrated and upset with all of this. They give me no information or no help in this letter.

Wow - what a let down!

I'm sorry you are having such a hassle huggles and I have no advice since we, obviously, never encountered this, just wishing you good luck at getting it straightened out soon.

Wow ... I can't believe it's been all this time and then they just send you that letter! If I were you I would definitely be getting in touch with someone ... I think an infopass appointment is a good start.

I hope it all gets sorted out for you soon.

I tried to call the USCIS help line but there aren't any options that pertain to the situation at all. And I have no idea how to talk to a person. I push zero and I get "that is not a command I understand" or something stupid, and then I try to stay on the line after the options are done and they say, "you didn't pick an option, I'll repeat them." Yes, thanks. Its after 6 now so calling again won't do me any good. I hear the people usually don't have very good information anyways.

I really can't think of anything to do other than make an infopass appointment. I don't have a pending case of a receipt number or anything, so I hope they can do something for me...

But thanks for the encouragement guys. I'm so upset and angry about all this. Compared to all this getting the visa and then the green card was easy!! no joke.

Huggles I don't really have any advice either although I do agree that an infopass appointment would be a good start.

Just wanted to say hello; when I see your posts I always feel a little closer to home :) . Welland was still the same over the holidays. The biggest news was the widening of Woodlawn Road by Niagara College.

Hi Huggles,

Sorry to hear of your situation dealing with the DMV...Hope you get that resolved soon and that you can get your driver's license soon...

If it makes you feel any better...

It took me 8 weeks to get my first SSN Card, due to immigration verification delays...

Lol..and it took 8 weeks for my son to get his SSN Card too, as they sent it to the wrong address....

And my USCIS status still says stuck at "scheduled for interview" even though I've been a US Citizen for more than a month now...

I think in your case, you should get an infopass appointment, and get this sorted out asap.

You can book an infopass appointment from the www.uscis.gov wesbite, relatively quickly...

Bring the letter that you got from the DMV and other paperwork too, to help explain your case....

And hopefully, you should get something accomplished there...

By the way...To get a "live person" on the mis-information line...Press..1 then 2 then 3...

But don't be surprised if they don't have the information that you need....After all, it's called the "mis-information" line for a reason...

You're better off explaining your case with an immigration officer in-person at an infopass appointment!

Lol..At times like this, I wonder: Why are we telling these government agencies to do their job?

Hope this helps too. Good luck with the rest of your journey too.

Thanks guys :)

I think I'm going to try and make an infopass appointment for Friday and see where it goes. Its just annoying considering the closest USCIS office is about 30 minutes away and I hate to go all the way out there for them so say they can't help me. Do you actually get to talk to a qualified person at these things or is it a front line civil surgeon like at the DMV that may or may not have any idea whats going on? That's what I'm afraid of.

Oh well, I'm trying to put it all into perspective. At the end of the day its just a drivers license. Everything else immigration wise has worked out for me pretty well thus far. I just can't believe that someone with a permanent resident card can be denied a license because of a stupid issue like this. I have a marriage license, immigrations knows I changed my name, I can verify who I am, it seems like a non issue but apparently for them its a huge issue.

Oh Huggles, I'm so sorry about these hassles!

Did you not complete all of the AOS forms in your married name? If so, shouldn't an NOA from that in your married name suffice as proof that your name is changed on USCIS' end?

I did, and yes, logical would tell you that. I have NOA's, my EAD, now my green card, a marriage license, photo ID in my maiden name and in my married name, my K-1 visa, everything they could possibly need but apparently that's not enough. I'm starting to think the issue is something larger than what it seems. At least, for my own sanity, I hope that it is something larger and not a silly misunderstanding of the rules by the DMV.

What do you mean by escalating it Krikit? I've been to 3 DMV's and nobody will issue me a license. I've tried everything...

Okay.... just a thought... what if you get the license in your maiden name... wait a month or so and then request a name change on your license??

Just a thought.

I mean escalating it to a supervisor. And then the supervisor's supervisor if you have no success.

Just a thought.

I think that's a brilliant idea if the name is the problem.
