Aww Bren, Byron is adorable! I hope he is home with you very soon

Krikit - those photos were a hoot! Thanks for posting them!

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Ohhh, Bern. He's beautiful! So happy to hear he's healthy. My son was a preemie, too. It took forever to bond with him because they didn't have the access back then that they do now. He was soooooo tiny. You wouldn't know it now, though! lol

Im new to this thread and im currently waiting still for the packet3 to arrive and currently 18weeks pregnant.I was freaking out when i found out that there will be a long wait to get the interview date in montreal. Now, i dont care at all for i decided to have the baby born here in canada. i know there will more stuffs to do after the baby born in canada and it means delays for us to go to US.i kinda like the things here in canada, going to see the doctor, just show the healthcard and i dont know how it works over there in US.My fiance have insurance which i think will not be a problem if i will have the baby there but what the insurance will cover i dont know.I dont like to get out of the hospital in debt so i think its better to have the baby here.

does anyone can help me what will i do or what documents to prepare so the baby can get american passport once the baby born? I plan to send the doctor's letter together with the documents for the packet3 so either the consulate an schedule my interview before my due date which will be on May 2011 or after my due date.

by the way, congrats to those who just have their babies. they are adorable.

There are a number of folks who've realized that having the baby in Canada is the best route since your healthcare costs are coverd by the province (as are the baby's when he/she is born).

As for what your fiance's healthcare insurance covers get him to check into that at work. His HR/ benefits person should be able to tell him when he is able to add you and the baby when you move. Most likely the baby can be covered immediately since it's his child....you may have to wait for a qualifying event like the wedding - he needs to find all that out for you before moving. You wouldn't want any surprises after you move since a newborn can;t be going without healthcare.

BTW - you may find that his insurance will not cover your pregnancy - I think that happened to someone else here.It 'could' be considered a pre-existing condition which means they may choose not to cover you...that wouldnt be good. The new healthcare laws are changing things - but not sure how soon.

I think if you get married and haven;t had the baby yet, they may HAVE to cover you...pregnancy and all - can anyone else with more experience comment?

Because we come from a country that has a national health care plan we are covered under the HIPPA laws, so they can not deny you insurance (even if it is private insurance). I wasn't covered under hubbies insurance at first even after marriage because he was only part time at his job and the plan specified that they would only cover him until he became full time. I looked into private insurance and could get it (through Blue Cross Blue Shield), but with the maternity rider it was going to cost $2450.00 per MONTH. They can't deny you, but they don't have to make it affordable either!!!!

Your husband will have to look into if you need to have a SSN in order to add you to the insurance as well. Although it is not law that you have one, some companies will do everything they can to not add you until you have one.

It is pretty expensive having a child here, so if you are able to stay in Canada to do it, you will save a lot of money.

Well next week I get to have my 2nd ultrasound, I'm so excited and nervous at the same time.

Anyways, I've been checking out a few things about where to have the baby. I've been advised not to have the baby in the Hospital here since they don't have any type of NICU so it would be better to just go to Little Rock. That's not a big deal since distance wise its all the same, but what does have me confused is what on earth do I really need to bring. to the hospital. I have seen a few list of things to bring with me but heck they have everything under the sun on it. Does the hospital provide anything at all?

OK now my other big concern is the labour itself, I hate needles so bad I had all 4 kids naturally just to avoid the dang needles. Now everything I've read talks about IVs for just about everything. Like you get it whether you need it or not. So to all the mommies who experienced the births of the babies in the US please let me know how it was for you. I know each State will probably be different but at least I will be able to make sure my Doctor knows well in advance how I feel and doesn't try to pull any stunts. I plan on staying home as long as I can so they can't stick me with a bunch of needles.

I think I need to stop reading sometimes lol.

Now that I'm 32 weeks pregnant ,I've been seeing two OBs from the beginning: A regular OB and a perinologist who looks after high risk pregnancies. And from the beginning ,I saw the difference between my Canadian OBs care and USA OBs care. I had two OBs in Canada and I was very unhappy with both of them due to lack of time spent with the patient and so many other reasons.

As a matter of fact my last and the second OB was very famous one who has books published and was practicing in one of the best teaching hospitals in Toronto: Mount Sinai. Yet;she never used to remember anything from my file every time when I visited her and she had to check the computer to remember any info about me. The first one was even worst who happened to be very laid back OB and told me everything was gonna be fine when i found out serious problems with my first baby. And ,I've lost the baby in the second trimester.

I've been having completely different experience in here. My OBs do remember me every time when they see me and they don't need to check their computer to remember all the info about me. I had a lot of routine tests here that I never had during my two pregnancies in Canada. My famous OB's secretary used to do the urine test sticks every time when I saw her. In here ,a nurse does that.

Overall I must say that I'm happy for being pregnant in USA more than I used be in Canada.Yes we pay alot for our insurance in USA,but I see that the quality is also different.

Did u also have different experiences in terms of prenatal care in both sides? If so ,how?

My experiences are different from Canada and here, but it could be the fact that alot has changed since I had mine, my youngest is now 13 so many things that I am seeing could be do to that. I'm almost 16 weeks now, so I have plenty of time to figure out things.

I'm also going to see a perinologist due to my age my first visit is Wednesday for a ultrasound. My OB is a high risk doctor to begin with so that is different then before. As for the urine stick test I never had that done in Canada, the nurse checks mine here too. I only had the one Doctor back in Canada he was great, I would go back to Canada if he was still alive to have him care for me again. This is the 3rd Doctor I've been too here and I like this guy, the others I saw seemed like Jerks and big rush to do things, I just got bad vibes from them so I asked my GP's nurses who they would recommend. It turned out they all use the same women's clinic so I went with one of their doctors. So glad I did. I love having so many Doctors here to pick from that is something totally new.

I also never had all these test for before, so I figure that's just something new they do.

Unfortuanely I have to say that I liked My canadian OB way better then the one I had seen here.

I was not impressed with the health system here and blamed them for my miscarriage for awhile (wasnt their fault)

I think I'm going nuts. I keep hearing everyone talking about twins, from friends to in laws and now my mother has even mentioned it. I know my first ultrasound was so early its possible they could of missed it but I highly doubt it. The worse part is long before ppl started mentioning twins I was dreaming about it. I'm tired, the nausea has not completely gone away thank god it is better. I just feel totally different then any other pregnancy I've had.

I'm now 4 months (16 weeks) I am so excited for Wednesday to get here for my second ultrasound, and see only one baby haha.
