Hey.

We found out a few weeks ago that I was pregnant. I'm at 8 weeks now. We haven't told anyone but the grand-parents yet since it's still so early. I have to say that I am both terrified to lose it (I have PCOS and apparently my chances to miscarry are higher) and terrified to give birth at the same time XD.

Welcome to the thread. Getting to 8 weeks is a good thing. You are only 4 weeks away from when miscarriage risk decreases. I have a couple friends with PCOS that took forever to get pregnant but once they were, they both carried their babies to term. Have hope that all will go well.

I have twin boys who are almost 6 months old. Being a first time parent is pretty intense. Add in immigration issues for my DH - we are currently waiting on his naturalization which has been in line for interview scheduling since April 8. Kind of like pregnancy - lots of waiting not knowing when the event will happen, lol.

Glad you found us!

Welcome to the baby thread! And congratulations on your pregnancy. You're getting a lot further along now and that's good news. Hang in there! I bet the grandparents were excited.

Thanks. I remember reading this thread while waiting for my K-1 and you were still pregnant. And now the babies are almost 6 months old. Time flies so fast.

I honestly thought it would take me longer to get pregnant, if it ever happened. But it only took a few months after I stopped the pill. I was very surprised. I'm not sure I really feel ready but I don't know that I would ever had felt ready either.(There's that part of me that keeps thinking : what if I'm a bad mom! ) It's mostly the fear of the unknown I think. You can't quite know what it is like until you have your first.

Welcome to the baby thread! And congratulations on your pregnancy. You're getting a lot further along now and that's good news. Hang in there! I bet the grandparents were excited.

Yes, they were! It's my parents first grand-child too :) My husband's mom is already knitting us some blankets for the kid hehehe. I know it's killing my mom not being able to tell everyone.

Hoping to visit home soon..and I just realized, is it okay to bring baby food across the border? I mean, it's fruits and veggies which are generally a no-no but they're in baby food jars. Otherwise I guess I'll just have to buy some when we get there? Or be unable to bring it back? I'm not sure how picky they are. And since we're applying for Nexus I want to avoid any potential issues flagging me!

You should be fine I think it's just fresh fruit and veggies that have the restrictions.

You should be ok :) since it's transformed and sealed. but if you want to make sure , you can check on

http://www.inspection.gc.ca/plants/imports/airs/eng/1300127512994/1300127627409

You'll be able to check by food (if you search baby food, for example you'll get a list with different choices like beef, veal, vegetable...) it will then ask you the provenance country and state and what will you use it for (personal use). And then you'll see if it's approved and the conditions you need to fill for it to be approved.

My boys got there passports a week ago. Need to fill out the Nexus things for them. DH and I leave next Friday to go to Canada for DH parents 50 th wedding anniversary. First long trip with the babies.

Hope your travels go smoothly! Congrats to your DH parents. 50 years is fantastic!!

As for us, we went to Canada this weekend. I took along some Mum-Mums and a sealed jar of apple-kiwi and apple-cherry and figured if I needed more food I could get it up there. Since it was sealed I thought it would be ok. They didn't even ask when we entered Canada. On the way back I left the fruit behind and just took the Mum Mums back to avoid the hassle since it was mostly gone anyway. DH forgot about the Mum Mums when the officer asked if we had any food but it wasn't an issue and we went through without many questions.

We ended up going home a day earlier than planned since our daughter apparently hates sleeping in the Pack and Play with a vengeance. Ugh that was a nightmarish night. Up every 2 hours, and then when I put her down screaming almost non-stop for half an hour before going back to sleep no matter what I do. Her sleep has been off with multi-wakings since we got back too but at least when I put her down in the crib at home she will stay asleep. I was afraid travel would throw off her sleeping.

Gave her some Tylenol tonight since last week she sprouted 3 teeth at once. Two top and one bottom. I can only assume the 2nd bottom one is coming in and giving her grief. Hopefully she'll sleep better tonight. I went to nap at the same time as her today and DH got her up so I got a 3 hour nap. That was more sleep in a row than I've had all weekend and it was amazing!!!!

My life has become centered around sleep more than I could have ever imagined before!

Cute babies! Someone gave us bibs for "babies first Canada Day". They were cute.

Trip to Canada - oh my - no exits in Toronto with car accidents. DH nearly had a breakdown from the boys crying. He got annoyed that we basically had to stop every 1.5 to 2 hours to change diapers or eat. Then the border crossing coming back to U.S. without our Nexus cards (totally need to get them for our boys) - torture. Screaming babies for an hour waiting to get to little "hut". Husband says "never again". We will see.

Ugh sounds like my nightmare x2 with two babies. Hearing them cry for so long is incredibly frustrating. Drives a person up the wall coz you can't do anything and just have to listen to it. I can't wait till we get Nexus for Lily. It still says 'pending review' for our applications almost a month later. Not sure how long the wait is. It tells me to log in to the site to check the status. I'd prefer an email coz right now I log in every day hoping for a change!

BTW, we were so wearied of the crying to come at the border that we drove an extra 45 minutes out of the way to go to a rural crossing that we wouldn't have to wait in line a long time for - and it worked pretty well since she only really cries when we stop the car. Boo to more driving though. But maybe an idea for the future?

Hang in there - sorry to hear about your husband. I hope you didn't feel the brunt of it. It's no one's fault. Babies cry. Unless maybe you can blame the government for the borders. Yeah...

So I've been filling out the application for Canadian citizenship for my daughter going off the government website instructions.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/CIT0001ETOC.asp#CIT0001E4

"

  • Two (2) pieces of personal identification, such as a passport, a driver’s license and a health insurance card, one of which must have your photo on it;"

I just realized for supporting documents it wants two pieces of ID. I got her passport so I could use it as ID (and I have her birth certificate)... but do I really need to mail the ORIGINAL passport to them or can I just send a photocopy of the ID page? I need the passport for our Nexus and I really don't want to mail it off to the Canadian government black hole, since they can take many many months to process.

Anyone have experience??
