I don't look down on you at all -- you have your opinion is all...

I respect someone who can hold their own with their opinion no matter how fvcked up it is! Again, I kid...

;)

I am going to be both, I figure it's old world language and it's a symbolic round of verbiage used to signify a pretty important event. So, I'm going to proudly be dual. I love my Canada and I will love my America.

My opinion, no need for clashing...

:)

lol nev, no worries, i'm used to being looked down on in this forum

Yeah, I TOTALLY respect Rob's stance. 100%.

Ultimately it can be summed up thus: taking citizenship should not be a means to an end. It should be an end unto itself. Doing it for the sake of getting some side perk out of it is disingenuous. Citizenship should be taken seriously, and respected. Simple as that.

I'd like to think that most Canadians would treat it that way.

I plan on getting the most out of my captain america unitard at my oath ceremony.

I think if you really want to be an american, you'd need to say your oath using the Hulk Hogan voice.

You know - I'm intrigued at how critical people have been of people's reasons . In particular that the reasons don't prove they want to take an active role in being a citizen of their new country?

So let me ask - what fabulous stuff were you doing in Canada that exemplified an 'active role' as a Canadian citizen? I would dare say that many of us simply fell into it by birth, did nothing special other then pay our taxes, vote when we felt the need (some more then others) and perhaps we claimed a little EI along the way in hard times .

I personally cannot say I did anything special - I did not log (ie trees :) ) , trap beavers, eat maple syrup daily or sing Oh Canada regularly. I didn't buy 'Made in Canada' products exclusively or watch CBC every night. Am I un-Canadian......uhm, no.

So why the heck are people giving others grief about their reasons for citizenship and whether they measure up? Most of us aren't even super-fab Cdns half the time...we're just plain old Cdns.

Must go back to the stupid job...

I guess you can chalk this one up to a difference of view concerning citizenship.

You can end every line of the oath with a "ohhhhh yeah, snap into a slim jim"

My uncle traps beavers, rabbits, lynx, bears. My grandpa was also a logger and is the Canadian loggers hall of fame.

We're so Canadian it hurts.

Don't know about beavers, but I do know my old coworker from Wisconsin used to hunt squirells in his back yard and cook them up and bring it for lunch...
