complicated POE

my fiance is coming to the states (finally!) march 1st.

i'm afraid his POE is going to be complicated though, as his mother and his mother's friend are driving he and his stuff here to nyc.

his mom's friend owns the truck. i suppose they'll drive here and then leave a day or two later.

is there anything that might impede him from poe-ing in an easy manner since he will not be on his own and will have 2 people with him?

thanks in advance, guys!

Sounds pretty normal to me - so normal in fact I can't even use my imagination to come up with at possible bad border crossing scenario

(but i'm sure someone will!)

:D well that's a relief to hear!

i, myself, came up with a possible bad border crossing scenario though. if you will indulge me- the border guards think that all three of them won't be going back to canada and staying in nyc instead. i suppose his mum and friend will both have to show the requisite proof that they have jobs, homes, etc and will indeed be going back to ontario as soon as my dude is all settled in.

huh. guess i just answered my own question.

:|

carry on! (and thanks)

Worst case scenario: they all sit there for an hour and a half while the PoE officer flips through reference binders and goes through the visa file, page by laborious page <grumblegrumblepembinanorthdakotagrumble>

:)

It'll be fine B)

Hi Bogartnoir,

Lol..Worse case scenario...

You get to the border, you hand over your ID, then they tell you to get out of the car...

Head into the customs building...

Then you and your SO are separated...

While they search your car, bags, belongings, and yourself

Then questioned/harassed for about 2 hours straight, without a break....

Not sure if you are able to enter the country or not or be banned....

Before being reuinted again....

No wait..That was my POE experience...

Trust me, your POE experience will be better, and will go a lot smoother, especially more so that you have your visa and paperwork already!

The only thing you have to be concerned about: The weather and traffic condtions...(It's pretty snowy here in New York State!). So check that ahead of time and plan accordingly and no other worries!

Good luck on a successful POE and yes to tell us about that on vj afterwards too. Happy travels! Welcome to America! :)

Ant

P.S. If you are doing a land crossing...I recommend the Peace Bridge...

I'd just make sure your fiance is first in the car convoy. That way he can explain what he's doing and what the others are doing in bringing his stuff and then returning to Canada. Often they just let the others go straight through with no problems.

Yeah, just make sure your fiance is the first car and that the other cars are directly behind him.

I went over the border 2 weeks ago and we had 3 cars. I went in the building by myself, but honestly it was a breeze. Make sure to get there early so that your fiance doesn't spend an eternity inside.

The BG shouldn't think that his family is staying unless they indicate so.

Yup!

When I POE'd (weird typing that, 1 more "o" & I'd pooed)...my fiance & I were in the same truck & we told them the vehicle behind us were my parents with a truck load of my stuff. We got sent into secondary, & they let my parents go without too much hassle - just a couple Q's.

He needs to bring his Visa (passport), his "DO NOT OPEN, DO NOT PACK" envelope, list of things in the boxes he's bringing (I numbered the boxes and had a page with the box numbers and what's inside, but they didn't ask to see it) and if he's importing a car his letter of compliance and bill of sale for the car.
