Hi all,

Ok, I see on a lot of people's timeline the expression "touched", or "touched and approved". Could someone clarify what "touched" means here?

And for those who feel this is a stupid question, well... sorry! :yes:

It's not a stupid question, it's a very common question.

Your petition is bar coded and every time someone touches your petition, the bar code is swiped. This updates the date on the USCIS website which, hopefully, you've registered for so you can see if that date has changed.

"Touching" a petition can mean it was counted, moved, filed, read, etc. It can mean approval is near or it can mean that it was moved from filing cabinet A to filing cabinet B due to a leaky pipe in the room it was stored in.

If you have not registered on the USCIS website to receive updates on your case, do that soon.
