Employment after Marriage

After all the visa processing is through, (K-1 in my situation) and approved; after my partner and I get married do I have to wait a certain amount of time before I am eligible to work? I am under the impression I need to file for a "work authorization form" of some sort. Can anybody explain to me how this process works after marriage, and can one apply for a "work authorization form" while in the K-1 process?

Thanks!

-M.

After you marry you will apply for AOS and your EAD. Once you receive your EAD you can start working.

The guides will provide more details. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...mp;page=k1k3aos

An EAD application based on the K1 will expire with the I-94. It probably won't even arrive until after it is expired. You need to file for adjustment of status and apply for an EAD based on the pending adjustment.

Thanks for the replies. Is the process for the AOS and EAD very similar to obtaining a visa; the length of time it takes to be approved, etc? I understand that it varies from case to case, but is there an estimated guess such as six months before being able to actually bring in some income? ha ha. Thanks for all the help!

Check the processing times at the top of the screen and read through the guides to get a better idea. For my husband I think it took about 4 months to get his GC. His EAD arrived shortly before. He began sending out his resumes about two months after we filed for adjustment of status and he luckily was employed roughly two weeks after getting his GC. However, I don't know if he'd have gotten hired so quickly had he not already sent out resumes.

Good luck!
