Guidance and counseling seminar?

Vicky just completed her medical, when she was there some of the other ladies there were telling her they had to attend a "guidance and counseling seminar" from the Dept. of Foreign Affairs.

We're doing a K1/ fiance visa. Is this a requirement for us?

Vicky's asking if she should do it, apparently it's in Quezon City.

It's the first I've heard of it, so I'm assuming it's for I-130 or CR1 filers??

Anyone know?

Thanks

When she attends the CFO, she'll know for sure that they are not giving a "guidance and counseling seminar" although they label it that way.

Have fun!

I think that's where she's planning to go, she needs to go visit her ex-co-worker's Mom in Quezon anyway, so she's thinking to kill two birds so to speak. But knowing now she has to return to get the actual stamp, I'm not sure if it's really saving her that much travel/ time/ expense.

I guess it would be peace of mind knowing it's passed already before the interview... so we can buy a plane ticket immediately when the visa is issued.

Is this something that occasionally gets denied? Or it's just like a briefing/ debriefing before you leave the country?

In other words if she waits until the visa is issued and we buy a flight, is there the potential this step could be denied and we'd lose money having to reschedule the flight?

Or can it be denied completely and you can't even come, even after your NOA2 and your visa is issued upon a successful interview?

Nobody gets denied during the CFO. It's basically an episode of lecture about what kind of preparation to do before flying to the U.S. and a little bit of knowing one's rights in order not to be caught off guard once a Filipino arrives in the U.S. For example, when I attended the CFO, the speaker said that some Americans bring their fiancee to Mexico if they want to get rid of them subtly knowing that the K1 visa is only a single entry visa. What people call as the "CFO interview" is merely that part when the so-named counselor talks vis-a-vis to your fiancee and asks her one or two questions about your background and if she is sure with her decision of going to a foreign land for marriage.

Relax. Your Vicky will be just fine.

All the best for the interview.

Dain...

The CFO is a good excuse to hang out in Manila for a while longer.

My wife and I have never heard of anyone "flunking" the CFO seminar.

I was wondering though, do you still need some kind of parents consent form to marry even though you are 23 years old already? I recieved an email from CFO regarding different kind of consent form for different age group that I need to bring at the seminar... any info is much appreciated.

I have seen this discussed before right here in the Philippines Forum. I don't remember the details, but there are VJ members who will have an answer for you. Maybe you can start a new thread so that you can get a quick answer.

I was 22 when I took the CFO on October 21 last year. As I often write here, I am from Cebu but I attended the CFO in Manila. Some girls I've met at St. Luke's told me that CFO in Cebu ate their one whole day. I thought that wouldn't make sense to me so a day after my interview, I went to comply the CFO requirement in Manila. They only asked for photocopies of two valid IDs and the fee. That's all.

 It has been the guiding light for us. Every thing we did as far as the immigration process is concerned was done straight out of this site using the guides, example documents and various links along with the wonderful support and guidence from the VJ members.
