Hello everyone! I'm Aes..... I assume there have been a lot of pinay nurses who are already in the US now. My questions are:

1. Can I apply and take the NCLEX while I am on my AOS?

2. Can a pinay nurse, without the NCLEX yet, be able to get a job, even if not as a nurse yet, but somehow related to healthcare?

3. I do not have clinical experience yet since I just graduated last year, and I have been attending to my mom who is sick while on the process of our K1 petition, will I be able to get a job easily? Or hospitals do really require experience from the Philippines?

Thank you for all of you who would be kind to respond to my questions. We are still on the process of our K1, since I had scars in my lungs, reason that I had to undergo the sputum examinations and wait for 8 long weeks (when in fact sputum culture would only take 3-4 days). Yeah it is bitter that I had to undergo this, considering during the whole medical process, no patient history taking was done. If they did, they would have known why I have scars ( I had them since the first time I had my x-ray and TB was already ruled out).

Right now, while waiting for the results come Feb of this year, I want to prepare myself on the what-to-do's to practice my profession in the US, so as to help my fiance in building our lives and dreams together.

Thank you for taking time to read my post. HappyNew Year!

Need to check with the State Board of Nursing for the requirements.

If you are from Texas... The answer is yes. Even a SSN is not needed to start the paperwork.

Need to...

1. Validate her credentials.. We used www.eres.com in California. Takes about a month or so. (Need to have her transcripts send directly from the PI University)

++ Maybe $325

2. Validate her RN License if licensed in PI. Needs to be sent to ERES and/or Texas BON.

3. Register with NCLEX

++ $200

4. Send Application to Texas BON

++ $139

5. Submit Fingerprints to Texas BON

++ Maybe $15

6. Texas BON -- Gives ATT (Authorization to Test to Pearson Vue)

7. Schedule and Take NCLEX Test

8. If she passes,, in Texas she will need 120 hours of Clinicals and 120 hours of Foreign Nurse education and take the Texas

Jurisprudence test to get her RN License.

9. If she fails,,, she can resubmit the Texas Application $139 and re-register for the NCLEX $200... And re-take the test in 50 days.

Note: Several states... you need to go through the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS)... http://www.cgfns.org/

which adds a bit more money and additional testing before you can take the NCLEX.

Also, Texas does not require english testing for students that attend Nursing Education in english and text books in english.

We are in the middle of this process in Texas. I am planning to relocate to the midwest,,, but, will get her licensed in Texas because of

the additional hurdles required (CGFNS) for the mid-west states of Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota.

As far as experience, once she gets the RN License she will be competing for a job like everyone else,,, except she will have a BSN whereas

most USA grads are only 2 years grads,, So, she should be a preferential hire.

Regards,

Hello everyone! I'm Aes..... I assume there have been a lot of pinay nurses who are already in the US now. My questions are:

1. Can I apply and take the NCLEX while I am on my AOS?- Yes, you can even take NCLEX while there in Philippines it will have nothing to do with your immigration paperwork's unless you will come over on a working visa I guess.

2. Can a pinay nurse, without the NCLEX yet, be able to get a job, even if not as a nurse yet, but somehow related to healthcare?- Most likely you will be ask for some type of certificate and Employment Authorization Document when you apply for the job.

3. I do not have clinical experience yet since I just graduated last year, and I have been attending to my mom who is sick while on the process of our K1 petition, will I be able to get a job easily? Or hospitals do really require experience from the Philippines?- If you will passed the ENCLEX and have your license you can apply on many agencies here. Job experience would be an advantage but it doesn't mean that you can't be hired anymore because you lacked of experience. "TALLCOOLONE'' (a member here) his wife is a nurse and never had any nursing job experience back in Pinas she just passed the ENCLEX.

If they did, they would have known why I have scars ( I had them since the first time I had my x-ray and TB was already ruled out).Sorry to hear these...hopefully you will have your visa soon.

Right now, while waiting for the results come Feb of this year, I want to prepare myself on the what-to-do's to practice my profession in the US, so as to help my fiance in building our lives and dreams together. -Good luck to you and to your future husband.

Thank you for taking time to read my post. HappyNew Year!-Happy New year and GoD bless!

As long as you have completed all the requirements of the State BON then, yes, you can take the NCLEX while you are still processing your AOS. Check the Pearsonvue website for the available exam schedule for the city you live in. You may have to reserve the slot a month or two in advance. The exam fee is 200 USD.

Good luck.

Thanks to all who replied to my post.

BTW, I am going to apply for NCLEX-Texas. I have my CES done already. Am still here in the philippines, but will be submitting my application next week, so I will just take the exam in Texas.

As per BON requirements, (suppose I will pass), a nurse should have at least 2 years of experience before the license be issued. Otherwise, the "nurse"/ me should undergo the refresher course which is 120 hours lecture/ classroom and 120 hours clinicals. Anyone who has done it? How much does this cost?

I will be living in Tomball. Thank you everyone! Godbless all the pinays and their partners all over the globe.

For Texas, we only need CES course-by-course. I had mine done from CGFNS. BON will only require CES, along with other requirements, for NCLEX. CES costs 385 dollars now.

1.) YES, you can take the NCLEX while on AOS as long as you have the ATT (Authorization to Test) and still valid.

2.) You can work ONLY with an EAD. To work in the health care field i.e. nurse assistant, nsg.aide, etc...you would need certification which entails enrolling in a class (short term classes) and passing.

3.) It's not easy to find a job in the U.S. right now because of recession, hospitals and other jobs requires a minimum 1 year experience.

Good luck!
