Hello,

I am planning to sponser my friend from India to Visit me here in the US.

I am wondering if a B1/B2 visa can be submitted by me on her behalf, or does she have to submit the B1/B2 form and i become the sponserer.

a visa applicant must make the application and does not require a sponsor.... A USC can write a letter of invitation, but the applicant must qualify for the visa on there own accord, not based on the involvement or promises made by a USC

A person has to apply/submit for their own B1/B2.

You can certainly give support and sponsorship as required.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

You can't really "sponsor" a B-2 visa. You can write a letter for your friend to take to the embassy stating that they will be staying with you and that you will personally see to it that you get them back to the airport to go home. This was actually useful when my fiancee (before she was my fiancee) had her interview for her B-2, the C/O told her he felt more comfortable in his decision having read that (but his mind was already made up). Other then that there is not much else you can do.

Make sure your friend had very, very strong ties to the country they are coming from.

Best of luck.

Depending on their ties to India and other factors like age, marital status, employment status, property owned etc. will your friends be given a B-2.

For example, a 22 year old unmarried male/female just out of college with no significant ties is considered to be a "flight risk" -- they will not be issued tourist visas.

You can supply a well-worded letter of invitation but they must qualify on their own.
