Nonimmigrant Visa # - should that be the "Control Number"

on the top right of the K-1 visa, or the number in RED

that looks like a serial number (printed under the expiry date for the K-1 Visa).

The "control number" appeared to have some characters that were the letter "O"

instead of zeros which had slashes through them. I treated all of them as if they

were numbers because to me a "control number" should not include letters.

It would be nice if the K-1 itself indicated which was the "nonimmigrant visa #"

but sheesh I guess that would be too much to ask...

I would copy it down exactly as written, if I were you. The USCIS adudicator will by typing that number into a database to check that you haven't forged the visa, and if s/he can't read it off the form and has to dig through your stack of papers to find the photocopy of your visa to get the number, they'll be all cranky for the next several minutes

Kidding aside, it's in our best interests to make the adjudicator's job as silky smooth and easy as possible.

No, the nonimmigrant Visa number in Part 3 of the I-485 is the red number on the visa. I just double checked it from my visa and what I entered on my I-485. The I-485 never wants the control number for anything.

That's what I suspected even if the red number is obscured by the date being typed over it.
